November 30, 200718 yr After looking all this up, I believe he makes it eventually Are you crazy? The Hall of Fame voters have proved that they don't treat closers too kindly (I agree). On top of that, Nen really wasn't an elite closer and had a short career. What's going to happen next? Jose Mesa in the Hall of Fame? This is all pure homerism. Calling me crazy? Nice one. Jose Mesa has a career ERA over 4. Hall of fame voters proved? LMFAO. Thats total BULLS*T. The closer position is something recently started in the late 80's. On top of that there are only 3 closers on the top 15 that are recently retired - Lee Smith, John Franco and Jeff Reardon. So The Hall of Fame voters proved that time isn't good to those 3? Because any other closers DON'T matter. A 10 year career isn't short for a closer. I believe the new generation of closers will wipe out all these records (as Hoffman has), and THAT will probably effect Robb from making it in. I do think, where he stands now, in the top 15 with the ERA and Postseason success he has, that he should make in in. And layoff the homerism/craziness BS kid. Discuss things like a man.
November 30, 200718 yr Lee Smith has been out of baseball for 10 years. He's career was double that of Nen, has twice as many All-Star Game appearances, and has finished in the Top 5 of Cy Young voting two more times (including one second place bid). He is still not in the Hall. Nen has a ring but he pitched terribly in that World Series and is lost among the heroes of Renteria, Counsell, Alou, Livan, etc. I'd say that is all pretty significant. If the voters start letting any closer in with comparable numbers, the number of people in the Hall will double. The voters aren't that stupid. Tim Raines probably has a better chance of getting in than Nen does. Lee Smith had a higher ERA. Lee Smith still has a chance to get in the hall. Your statement of voters not being kind to closers has NO merit whatsoever. Closers are new in this era and hardly have had a chance to even get in, since alot of the top 10 or 15 have not retired yet. If Rollie Fingers got in, Lee Smith has a good chance of doing so eventually. I still think Nen should have a good chance to get in. He was a top 15 closer in the first era of closers. Over time, he will go down eventually, since there is a new generation of good closers as I said before.
November 30, 200718 yr He's number 15 in saves... I don't see how that merits any thought to him getting in he probably gets no more than 8% of the vote, and thats probably pushing it
November 30, 200718 yr lol ramp, 8%? that is a weird number just to throw out there...RU handicapping the Hall of Fame voting? :lol
November 30, 200718 yr lol ramp, 8%? that is a weird number just to throw out there...RU handicapping the Hall of Fame voting? :lol no matter what I say, would you believe me? :mischief
November 30, 200718 yr Your argument is fallacious. If we are indeed ushering in a new era of closers, Nen's short, non-elite career will only deplete as time goes on. If he doesn't get in soon (he won't) he will have less of a chance getting in beyond that. That's what I was saying... As of now, he should have a chance. Later on this will change of course... maybe you didn't get that
December 1, 200718 yr if Nen hadn't had his career cut short, he'd have a good shot...he was (and still is I believe) the youngest closer to reach 300 saves, and if he hadn't gotten hurt he'd be over or closing in on 500 saves by now
