Marlins announce spring schedule

Recommended Posts

MIAMI -- Marlins pitchers and catchers will undergo their physicals for Spring Training on Feb. 17, and workouts will begin the next day at the Roger Dean Stadium complex in Jupiter, Fla. For the sixth straight year, Jupiter will be Florida's spring home, as the organization prepares for its 16th season.

While pitchers and catchers will go through their first workouts on Feb. 18, position players will take their physicals on Feb. 20. The team's first full-squad workout is set for Feb. 21. Workouts are open to the public.

The Marlins also announced their 2008 Grapefruit League schedule on Thursday. In all, they will play 17 home games and 20 total games at Roger Dean Stadium. Since the Marlins share the complex with the Cardinals, they will be the visiting team three times.

The exhibition season will begin with a Feb. 26 contest against the University of Miami, set for 3:05 p.m. ET at Roger Dean Stadium. Florida's first Grapefruit League game will be on Feb. 27 at home against the Nationals at 7:05 p.m.

The Marlins will conclude their spring schedule at Roger Dean Stadium on March 27 against the Cardinals in a 1:05 p.m. game. Although the team will pack up and leave Jupiter after that game, it won't be through with Spring Training games.

As final tune-ups for the regular season, the Marlins will play host to the Yankees in two Spring Training games at Dolphin Stadium: March 28 (7:10 p.m.) and March 29 (6:10 p.m.).

Opening Day will be on March 31 against the Mets at Dolphin Stadium.

Ticket prices for individual games at Roger Dean Stadium start at $26 for field box, $24 for loge box and $12 for bleachers.

Tickets for the exhibition games with the Yankees and season ticket plans (which start as low as $68) will be available for purchase online at floridamarlins.com at a date to be announced.

A couple of early Grapefruit League games that promise to be sold out are on March 3 and March 4 when the World Series champion Red Sox and Mets visit Jupiter for 1:05 p.m. contests.

I gotta get a calendar for next year. But it looks like just one Sunday game away. And one Thurdsday night game. The BoSox @ Ft Meyers is a Saturday game but SS, which I don't like. But Dodger Town on a Sunday!!! That would be a not miss trip.

Am I not seeing all the Sunday games away? We really liked following the team around last year to different places.
