December 15, 200718 yr The Padres have acquired Jim Edmonds from the Cardinals for David Freese, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Edmonds made it clear earlier this offseason that San Diego was a preferred destination for him if he was going to waive his no-trade clause. It's a very good gamble for the Padres, especially since the Cardinals are going to be kicking in at least $1 million to help cover his $8 million salary. They should still have the funds to sign Geoff Jenkins if he decides he wants to play in San Diego. In Freese, the Cardinals get a pretty good third base prospect, though he won't be ready to step in next year if Scott Rolen is dealt. He was expendable because the Padres had both Kevin Kouzmanoff and Chase Headley ahead of him. --- RotoWorld.com
December 15, 200718 yr Long term who knows if they made the right move but for now YEAH they needed it!
December 16, 200718 yr frankly I'm less than impressed, another washed up veteran acquired by the Pods, like Piazza before him and Maddox now..... ok, maybe only 90 percent washed up....of course if he follws the Clemens work out regimen he'll get better as he hits 40 and win an MVP over there....

I mean, in light of recent days news, I think we should all take a step back before we congratulate Clemens on his workout regimen. I think that if Edmonds went on THAT he would be banned for fifty days.
December 16, 200718 yr thats what i meant, I was being sarcastic......the Pods seem to be famous for bringing in big names just past their primes, ie David Wells, at least it sells tickets, I guess
