JUPITER -- The Marlins have anointed Scott Olsen to start their Grapefruit League opener on Wednesday, increasing the likelihood he'll also be their Opening Day starter on March 31.''I'm just looking forward to getting it underway,'' Olsen said.

 

Right-hander Bobby Keppel has been tabbed to start Tuesday's annual exhibition game against the University of Miami.

 

Olsen said he would welcome the Opening Day assignment but has received no indication from manager Fredi Gonzalez or the coaching staff that that would be the case.

 

The Marlins kick off the Grapefruit League schedule at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday against the Washington Nationals at Roger Dean Stadium. They open the regular season at Dolphin Stadium against the New York Mets and their new ace, Johan Santana.

That's retarded. I mean, of course we could beat Johan. Anyone can beat anyone. Every team in the AL has beat Johan atleast once. Why can't we beat him?

 

Not only that, you NEVER give up a game. By that rediculous logic, we might as well forfeit the entire series, seeing as their 1-2-3 are better than our 1, whoever that ends up being.

Looks like Keppel is a former Mets 1st round draft pick who never panned out, spent most of the last 4 seasons at triple A.

I would say their 1-2-3 are more seasoned than our 1-2-3. Giving up on the Opening Day game or the entire series is, um, well, it's not good thinking before the first pitch is even thrown in ST. If everyone thought like that we wouldn't have even shown up for the WS in 2003.
