CASTILLO is the most important player to keep.

please Why?

Don't ignore the rest of my post.

Show some substance, give me a reason.

Are you all blind? Do you want Hooper playing second, or Castro playing catcher!?

Pierre and Castillo are what power this offense, believe it or not. You get rid of Castillo, and you've just lost an All-Star and soon to be Gold-Glover. Not only that, but you can subtract 100 runs scored.

Ivan can be somewhat replaced. Luis cannot be.

Call me crazy, but this is fact.

This is true...Many of you are missing this. I have nothing else to add.

hey, Id be more than happy to sign Grudzy or Eric Young or a cheap Roberto Alomar to man 2B next year

Luis is not the key to this team and even if Luis is gone, we will not see Hooper

Where is the all of the above choice?

Castillo is important, but more important than Pudge? I've got to say no way here. First of all, we don't really know that Castro will be a good every day player. Yeah, he has power, but he hasn't been around long enough for opposing pitchers to find his weaknesses. I'm betting he has quite a few, at his size. He may be a .220 hitter. Also, he might be in jail. Pudge is the best catcher in baseball. He's a team leader. He's the guy you most want to see at the plate with men on base because he knows what to do with it. Having two leadoff men is nice, but at 9 million dollars I don't think that's a luxury the Marlins can afford.

Out of those 3 free agents, he is the one we need to keep.

Of the players you listed, Grudzy is the ONLY one who can come CLOSE to Castillo offensively, but he's not a switch-hitter, he is not fast, and is nowhere near Luis defensively. Not only that, but he's going to want/get almost as much as Castillo. Young can steal a base, but hits .250 and plays average defense. And Alomar just isn't the same player he once was (and struggled mightly in the national league).

We can't lose Pudge and we won't lose Pudge.

Pudge single-handidly put us in the NLCS, and was MVP of the LCS.

It would be nice to sign them both . . .

I don't think Luiy will be as hard to resign as people believe, alot of teams are concerned after his lackluster performance in the postseason and the fact that he isn't as fast as he once was (at least not this season).

Castillo is going to cost $5-7 mill, at the most. Ivan's MINIMUM will probably be $9 Mill.

IMO, Miguel will pick up the slack offensively for Ivan in his first FULL season, and with a seaosn already under his belt. Keeping Castillo gives you the best 1-2 tandem in the game, and saves you a few million bucks in the process. Conine or Cabrera would replace him batting 3rd. Jeff drove in more uns than Ivan did in 2003, and puts the ball in the opposite field just as well as Pudge does. Miguel was on a pace to drive in well over 100 runs, and that was batting 7th most of the season.

I think its obvious who needs to stay out of our offensive core:

JP (staying anyways)

Pudge

Cabrera (staying anyways)

Lowell

Conine (staying anyways)

That is a winning lineup right there. I love Castillo but I doubt we will see him, but I really hope he comes back. Pudge and Lowell are the real key players that we need. You can argue all you want but these two guys are the fan favorites and it doesn't matter what you say.

If we kept those 5 guys for next season, along with most of the pitching (Urbina isn't as necessary as you want him to be) I can guarantee a winning season. A guy like Urbina can be picked up towards the end of the season like we saw this year.

I think you have it backwards. I would rather keep Castillo. Up the middle is important. September showed that we can win without Lowell. Cabrera can fill in it 3rd, Conine in left and keep Lee at first.

I'll take Lee batting .270 31 HR's and nearly 100 RBI's with his caliber glove.

I agree with that...

i think you are making a bigger deal of out Luis than is necessary

How so? Castillo had an on-base percentage of .381this season! He hit .314! He had a career high in hits (187) and scored 99 runs in 152 games! I don't think you realize what an offensive force he really is. He means just as much to this line-up as ANYONE else. And to top it all off, he had his second consecutive All-Star season, and is going to win his first gold-glove award.

No other second baseman on the free-agent market or in our organization is capable of that. Especially for $5-6 Million ($5 mill most likely, with the lack of stolen bases).
