How has Tampa been able to pass us on the talent ?

Featured Replies

Constantly drafting pitchers is not the problem. We have plenty of position players at the moment.

And who are the Rays position players you are jealous of? I think Upton and Longoria obviously have bright futures, but other than Crawford, no one else on that team really scares you. They are winning because their building of the pitching staff is finally starting to bear fruit. So while you blast Beinfest for drafting pitchers, in a few years you might think differently when that starts to bear fruit. You win with pitching, first and foremost. Bottom line.

I agree. And if you think about it, good pitchers are a shortage in baseball. So even if you have too many there will always be takers via a trade for a couple of good position players

Well they have the first pick every damn year in the draft, it's hard not to eventually get talent that way.

There number one picks aren't contributing as much as you think. Delmon Young(turned into Matt Garza), Josh Hamilton, David Price, and th new one(2008) I cant remember his name.

We have yet to see Beinfest's strategy of stocking up on pitching in the draft be a big benefit to us...but give it time. Every team always needs pitching, it's the toughest thing to find in baseball. We are gonna be overloaded with young, talented, inexpensive, major league ready pitching for the next 5+ years...we will be able to make any move we want to fill any holes among our position players.

Agreed, eventually a number one draft pick is going to pay off.

The Rays are having a great year, but so what. The Marlins have 2 World Series Titles, and The Rays have yet to make the playoffs.

The Rays biggest accomplishment so far was finishing 4th in the AL East. Until they do anything exciting, the Marlins are the only proven franchise in Florida while the Rays are Florida's roflmao team.

We have 2 world series trophies...they have none. we also have a good young team and am confident once our injured players return, everyone better watch out

Exactly, thanks for seeing it from my eyes. The Rays or formerly (Devil Rays) have never had a quality team. They have not only failed to make the playoffs in 10 years but they have yet to finish with a .500 record at the end of the season. The Rays were due a good year and draft pics and scouting have paid off for them.

I will wait and see how the Rays finish and also wait to see how they do next year before considering them anything to look at.

In pitching, yes.

In defense, no contest.

In hitting, I'm not so sure. While we are 4th in the NL in runs scored, they are 9th in the AL.
