Positives/Negatives from last night's game

Featured Replies

Positives:

- Hammer is back: he got a hit (shoulda had 2) and made a fantastic diving catch last night (lets hope his back holds up)

- Hoover was very solid behind the plate. The tip toe tag of the plate on the errant throw from cantu was a play that treanor or rabelo don't make. Too bad the kid isn't a major league pitcher.

- Olsen still pitching well

- We're still only 1 game back despite losing

Negatives:

- Bullpen: 'nuff said

- Jacobs: 'nuff said

- Phil's won't keep losing and the wildcard race(4 GB) is continuing to widen.

My thoughts in blue.

I hope he stays healthy. If he does then that is a key acquisition for us.

Thank god. Nice defensive plays from the catcher. Rabelo wouldn't have made those. If Hoover can be decent at the plate I will be thrilled.

I agree. It'd be nice to see him get some wins to boost his confidence more. We need him to be the ace.

Yes, but for the amount of games the Phillies have lost recently we should be in first place, not one game back.

Negatives:

- Bullpen: 'nuff said

8th inning was unlucky, but still you have to get out of it, we had an opportunity to.

- Jacobs: 'nuff said

Bullpen face 15 batters in 2 innings, not good.

Willingham, good game for the first back.

Positives Olsen pitched the way he's supposed to be able to, the Marlins the worst ranked defensive team made several good plays especially those playes with the bases loaded. I'll even give a partial poditive to Nelson, yeah I knoew he walked in the go ahead run but he came in with the bases juiced and absolutely refused to give the Rays a pitch they could hit that could have opened the game up with a big hit.

Negatives well overall the pen gave up 4 runs in 2 innings, never good, Uggla didn't have a good swing all night and the offense never seemed to get it going, they were lucky to get that second run.

p.s.

why didn't freddi put Waechter in instead of Pinto?

I think we should go with Waechter first... he has been decent this year.

Last night's game was loss because we are not a good defensive team. In the 8th inning if Jacobs get an out at 2nd on the ground ball to him we get out of the inning with no runs scored. In the 9th if Willingham catches the fly ball tha ended up going for a double we once again get out of the inning without being scored on. The bullpen had to pitch to a lot more guys because of poor defense.

We had to have a lot more things happen in order to get out of those inning unscathed... yes jacobs getting that out would have helped and yes hammer making that catch would have helped but the bottom line is that the BP needs to throw strikes and make better pitches. Overall the D played as well as you could have hoped for... the bullpen let us down again and our bats went cold with RISP

You point the finger at the bullpen yet you agree that those plays should have been made. Had those plays been made, we win and we would have been praising the bullpen.
