Astros Cry Wolf.

Featured Replies

CINCINNATI -- The Padres found a willing trade partner for left-handed pitcher Randy Wolf on Tuesday, sending the veteran to the Astros for Minor League right-handed pitcher Chad Reineke.

Wolf was 6-10 with a 4.74 ERA in 21 starts for the Padres this season.

"Randy is an experienced starter and a great competitor," Astros general manager Ed Wade said in a statement. "We tried to sign him as a free agent during the offseason, but the chance for him to pitch close to home prevailed. I've known Randy since the day he signed his first professional contract, and I can say without hesitation that he brings every quality that you'd want in a member of your team, both on and off the field."

Wolf can be a free agent after the season and will likely command -- and receive -- a multi-year deal from some team if he chooses the open market.

Wolf was scheduled to pitch Thursday in Pittsburgh. By trading him now, San Diego will save up to $2.325 million in incentives for starts and innings pitched.

Wolf signed a one-year deal with the Padres in December for $4.75 million.

And why are the Astros looking like "buyers" when they have no chance to make the playoffs, this year? :whistle :confused

That's Ed Wade for ya

The Astros franchise is probably the worst in all of baseball right now. Absolutely zero talent in the minors right now and not much at the big league levels either. Ed Wade is horrible.

HORRIBLE farm system, they were rated the worst farm system in the majors. that is tough for a team that has been all over the board in drafting. You can't not be that bad and unlucky. To bad for Astro's fans.

According to baseball prospectus. They have have 0 players under 25 that are major prospects. The only one is Hunter Pence but he is on the MLB roster. Also, they only have 9 star rated players in the system and no 5, 4, or 3 star players. Only 2 and 1 star.

The sad part is that they passed up on Justin Smoak for Jason Castro, who most people had pegged as a late 1st rounder, 2nd round type guy. I know they have Berkman, but you don't draft based on need, you especially don't pass over a top 5 talent when you have no talent in the minors.
