Samson Speaks

Featured Replies

Just came from the stadium (nice win) with an alumni group. Prior to the game, Marlins Prez David Samson spoke to the group.

I know he's not the most popular guy around these boards, but the dude was pretty funny (and quick on his feet).

Some interesting tidbits about the new stadium:

1) Marlins never seriously considered the Bicentennial location because of parking/traffic concerns. Their data showed that it would be an absolute disaster for people to get to/leave the location after the game.

2) Marlins preferred downtown site, but OB was what Miami-Dade offered.

3) The new stadium will have strategically located parking garages to allow easy access to the highways. For example, parking lots serving people coming from the north will position cars to head right for the northbound highways.

4) The Marlins have a contingency plan in place in case Braman's appeal isn't immediately heard by the Circuit Court of Appeals. It sounds like they'll pay off UM (and Huizenga) to allow them to re-up for 2011.

Another funny moment: a guy in the crowd asked if the Marlins would sign Bobby Bonds. Samson quipped: "he's dead, so he might fit into our payroll."

Good stuff.

The guy is hilarious. I heard him speak one time when I went for a sport management seminar. He's an economics geek, which really isn't a trait fans like, but it's business, and he gets it done.

Oh cool. I'm usually out there getting autographs of players on the visiting team. That's cool they came out. I got Hanley's autograph out there once when he stopped. :cool

awesome to see him do a mini-seminar/speaking event and he seemed open and down to earth. Thanks for the posting.
