August 29, 200818 yr Because benching him once in a while means he's not going to develop? Do you think he's playing well? If not you shouldn't have a beef with Freddi benching him. And this is pretty much the key to this thread here... if Hermida were getting benched for any prolonged period of time, there would be a problem, but this is inevitably just a short-term thing... Like I've said, my only problem(s) in this thread are the personal things, the attitudes, not the idea of Hermida sitting till he's ready to produce
August 29, 200818 yr Author Is Dan Uggla playing well? No. If this were true what you guys are saying...Amezaga would be playing 2B, due to his great effort and passion. Yet, Amezaga is not playing 2B, b/c at the end of the day, Uggla is a better player; the best option ON THIS TEAM to play 2B. Just like Jeremy Hermida is THE BEST OPTION for RF. There's a reason why Gonzo NEVER played RF up until this year...it's b/c RF'ers are supposed to actually have an arm...and if they don't, they should at least be the hottest hitter on the team, at the moment. Gonzo doesn't really qualify for either. If you're saying Hermida is getting benched due to lack of effort...it's a double-standard, then. B/c Dan Uggla has not only been irrelevant for 2 months, but he's also made some of the biggest baserunning mistakes, you'll ever see. Fielding mistakes, as well...like covering the bag for an irrelevant run, in Tuesday night's game. If you're saying it's better to put a veteran over a struggling Hermida out there right now...why is Jacobs still playing over Helms? Is it b/c Jacobs gives a "great effort" to NOT get to a ball, or something? C'mon... I hate this whole thing where people complain about Fredi's "fire." There's a reason why Uggla hasn't been benched to an extent. It's b/c he's the better player than the options on the bench. These players don't need a "statement" to play better. I don't believe that one bit; if they do...it's time to get some new players. They're not 5 years old; they are professionals...and human beings, capable of screwing up. At the end of the day, you put your best players on the field. Hermida is the best RF'er on the team. If you want to give Gonzo a start in LF, or even a start in RF to rest Hermida once in awhile...cool. But don't tell me Gonzo is a starting RF'er...despite his solid career, he's NEVER been a starting RF'er.
August 29, 200818 yr Look, on the outset of everything, I think most agree with these statements... but at the same time, this could more or less be considered a "break" for Hermida, and yes, if Uggla doesn't get the same "breaks" it is a double standard... I'm a huge Hermida fan, but the thing about Hermida is that it's all cerebral with him, I still maintain that he's the second most talented hitter on the team, but mentally, maybe the break will help... like I said, i think it's just a very short-term thing
