November 2, 200322 yr http://www.rtd-denver.com/SpecialRides/Roc...Ride/index.html RockiesRide is available for every game at Coors and is very convenient, why can't MDT offer something similar? Make the damn penny tax useful for the kids whose parents can't drive out to the ballpark or the college/high school student who has no car! Denver is harder to do this in than Miami for a multitude of reasons which altitude is the least of.
November 2, 200322 yr i don't think i quite follow what the difference is between rockiesride and what we already have in place. metrobus goes to pro player, and tri-rail drops you off almost right there at the golden glades station. are you suggesting that MDT has some sort of special campaign tied to the game?
November 2, 200322 yr Author MDT only runs Marlins park and ride during weekends (last happened in 2002) and during playoff games like they did this year. RockiesRide is cheaper and runs for EVERY one of the 81 home games.
November 2, 200322 yr Author Another point is that Broward doesn't run park and ride for the Marlins even during special occasions which leave alot of neighborhoods up in north broward who can't drive out of marlins games. They run it for the Dolphins KICK TRAFFIC! Ride the Dol-Fan Express Broward County Transit's Park & Ride Express Bus Service to all Miami Dolphin Home Games Don't worry about traffic, expensive parking fees, or the hassles of getting to the games. Ride the Dol-Fan Express and relax! Last bus leaves Park & Ride lot 1 hour before game time. BCT's ROUTE 2 ALSO TRAVELS TO PRO PLAYER STADIUM. Regular Fare - $1 Reduced Fare - $.50* *Senior/Youth/Disabled with proper I.D. , why not the Marlins at least on the weekends? MDT should run it for every home game considering it is in county and they have the penny tax to pay for it. It is too difficult for people to get to the games and get back home to go to work the next day.
November 2, 200322 yr I don't think demand is sufficient to warrant them providing transportation to every game. And I know it's a catch 22, how do you get more people there if you don't give them new ways to get to the ballpark? But if attendance rises this season more transportation will most likely become available to fans coming outta Miami-Dade. I mean they did provide additional means transportation to the WS because demand was very high. They run it for the Dolphins It's also a lot easier to do anything for the Dolphins with only 8 home games a season and no more than one per week. Starting something up for the Marlins would be a much larger undertaking.
November 2, 200322 yr Author the catch-22 has to be broken by the service provider. fans can't go unless they have a service to get there. start off for all friday, saturday and sunday games and expand from there. 2003 had no park and ride until the post season. 2002 had weekends, but it started midseason. there is demand, but no service as with most things in dade county.
November 2, 200322 yr When it was available how many people were actually making use of it? Was there a reason it stopped?
November 2, 200322 yr Author reason it stopped is unknown, but the park and ride press release for 2002 said it was popular.

That's why I keep saying that the new stadium should be somewhere very near to a Metro station (i.e. Downtown Miami, Miami Arena).

Denver is harder to do this in than Miami for a multitude of reasons which altitude is the least of. When I still lived in my native Colorado, my friend and I did that for Rockies games every so often. It was much cheaper and easier than trying to find a parking spot near Coors Field. Out here in Tucson, they have a service similar to that during Rockies Spring Training games. People can go park in designated lots not far from Hi Corbett Field and be shuttled over to the park. I like being able to get there early and park next to the Rockies' players though. Hi Corbett's parking is free and you can park by the players, right out front of the stadium. My car always looked like a real hoopty parked next to Todd Helton's Excursion :lol Other Rockies parked in the back of the stadium...Denny Neagle's Hummer is always out back, and there is also a lot back there for the Minor League players.
November 2, 200322 yr I really think that if the teams want more fans to come to their games, they should provide this alternative.
