November 2, 200322 yr Author This is not an insulting letter to the Miami Herald's fine sports staff, including Dan Le Batard, who came practically drove the Florida Marlins' bandwagon to the finish line. This is a wake up call to all so called 'Marlins' fans', especially from Broward County, who are complaining about the proposal of a Downtown Miami stadium. Many Browardites and even other 'fans' from throughout South Florida have displayed their disgust by mentioning how the team has already wasted its' chance of baseball in Miami. No offense to the city of Miami Gardens, but Pro Player Stadium is not in Miami. Sure, the Pro Player Stadium fanatics say, it must be in Miami because it is in Miami-Dade County. This is a lame argument; comparable to saying the Marlins had great crowds in May. Fans from South Dade could only dream of traffic-free nights on their frustrating drives of over twenty miles. Pro Player Stadium is about a mile from Broward County. In my opinion it is the other way around. Instead of fighting rush hour traffic from Downtown north to attend games like I have for my 11 years as a season ticket holder, Broward fans are blessed with driving against the traffic to reach the stadium and Downtown Miami. And my good friends from Broward County can complain all they want about their boycott of the 'Miami' Marlins. In fact, I am fine with that. They didn't show up in May when the team needed them. What makes me think anything will be different. The point is, they call themselves 'diehards' when this football/baseball stadium was practically in their own backyards, but when the prospects of building a baseball stadium nine miles to the south are considered they throw a hissy fit. If you won't spend an extra 13 or 14 minutes on I-95 to see a game in a real stadium, then you shouldn't consider yourself a fan. Maybe David Wells was right . . . Don't forget you ten year old teal hat as you exit the bandwagon. Have fun at Panthers' games. Any suggestions? Comments?
