Marlins assign eight to Minors camp

West, Collazo, Standridge, Sinkbeil, Morrison among demotions

By Alden Gonzalez / MLB.com

JUPITER, Fla. -- The Marlins sent down another wave of prospects Thursday, as left-handers Willie Collazo and Sean West, right-handers Brett Sinkbeil and Jason Standridge, infielders John Lindsey, Manny Mayorson and Logan Morrison and outfielder Scott Cousins were reassigned to Minor League camp.

West, who stands 6-foot-8, was the Marlins' first-round pick in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft. In 4 2/3 spring innings, the 22-year-old had given up six earned runs.

Morrison, who hit .332 with 13 home runs and 74 RBIs in Class A Jupiter in '08, batted .182 in seven Spring Training games.

Collazo, out of Florida International University, had given up three earned runs through two innings this spring, while Sinkbeil had pitched three shutout frames and Standridge had given up one run in 3 2/3 innings.

Mayorson was 4-for-20 in Spring Training, while Cousins was batting .273 through seven games. Lindsey, a 32-year-old who will open his 15th straight season in the Minor Leagues, was 1-for-11.
