Posted April 18, 200916 yr My sister got into a car accident today, noone was hurt thank god. It was not her fault as the other driver took a stop sign. Question is, my sister is not under my parents insurance policy. There was a police report made and other driver has State Farm. What can be done?
April 18, 200916 yr Well I dont know much about insurance policies, but I wouldn't be worried if its the other driver's fault, he probably has to pay you, right?

Well yeah, but im trying to see if its a good idea to thru the insurance since my sister was not on the policy, and her being on 16 that means the insurance will probably sky rocket to over $400 a month??
April 18, 200916 yr Author What insurance policy is she on? I was mistaken, I thought she was uninsured. ok, My mom has state farm too just like the other driver, but my mom never had my sister under any insurance policy..
April 18, 200916 yr If she's not insured, then there might be a fine. I'm not sure about this, though, but I have to imagine there will be some sort of repercussions, because all drivers must be insured by law in the state of Florida.

I dont think you guys are understanding me. My mom has insurnace, when the cop got there he ask for insurance and reg from both my sister and other driver, he did his report and gave the other driver a ticket. Now my question is when my mom calls the insurnace what will happen? Will my mom and than her insurance goes up because of not having my sister on it?

Or none at all?

April 18, 200916 yr I've heard conflicting reports of if you need insurance in Florida. My mom wouldn't let me drive after I got my license until I got insurance because she believe you needed it, but I've been told by a few people since that it is not against the law.

I don't know if calling your mom's company would make her premiums go up so I wouldn't call her company. The other guy's insurance should pay.

Yes, but its the same company that my mom has (State Farm) so when they see the report there going to know the person driving was not covered and maybe not want to pay?
April 18, 200916 yr This is a funky one. As I mentioned before, and agreeing with Penguino, I believe that Florida law requires liability insurance. If your parents don't file a claim for their vehicle, they should be able to avoid the spike in premiums. But if your parents report it, assuming that the insurance will pay the claim, then it's inevitable, as far as I know, that if insurance pays a claim, then they will raise that accounts rates appropriately. How serious is the damage? Maybe you can settle without getting the insurance involved? Or is it too late for that already.....

My mom is going to contact that other driver so if he pays she wont go to court, his ticket gets dismiss and noone goes thru insurance lets see what he says.
