Posted May 16, 200916 yr I'm putting this in the main forum because I'm tired of reading people speculate on him getting called up. He hurt his knee about two weeks ago and will not be playing for at least another few weeks. He is not going to be called up anytime soon. Do you people ready anything but the Marlins section of this board?
May 16, 200916 yr As long as he recovers nicely, I'd have to imagine we'll see him in June after the magic arbitration date. If Coghlan isn't taking a good chunk of EB's starts, then I'd like to see Gaby do it instead.
May 16, 200916 yr As long as Sanchez doesnt go anywhere near 3B I am fine with it. Just a placeholder for Morrison anyway.
May 16, 200916 yr As long as Sanchez doesnt go anywhere near 3B I am fine with it. Just a placeholder for Morrison anyway. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, that is correct. However, they should be backed up with more than smugness and stubborness.
May 16, 200916 yr Author Marlins1 brings up a very good point. That said, we're probably best off if Gaby doesn't play 3rd coming off an injury to hit knee. It's a position most have said he's not very good at. Why put undo stress on him when he does get healthy and called up.
May 16, 200916 yr Do you people ready anything but the Marlins section of this board? WTF is Gaby Sanchez?
May 16, 200916 yr As long as Sanchez doesnt go anywhere near 3B I am fine with it. Just a placeholder for Morrison anyway. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, that is correct. However, they should be backed up with more than smugness and stubborness. You mean like the general consensus that Gaby Sanchez is truly awful at 3B, just horrendous defensively over there or the consensus that he is the 1B only until Logan Morrison is ready? Which one?
May 16, 200916 yr Author I think Spike is forgetting that if Gaby can hold down the position, Logan's gonna be a LFer.
May 16, 200916 yr Not forgetting it at all. I just dont think a guy with 10 HR potential in his prime years who turns who is almost 26 years old already is really that much danger to Morrison's run at 1B. As far as Marlin1 goes, he has been given stats, scouting reports, many things to back up peoples counter opinions of Gaby Sanchez and he, well, ignores them.
May 16, 200916 yr Author I don't think he has 10 hr potential, but you're almost as down on Gaby as Marlins1 is high on. It's not that he's going to block Morrison. But for a team that strikes out too much, a young hitter with a very advanced approach at the play who is coming off consecutive 40+ double seasons and has a couple of seasons of double digit homer runs is going to see playing time. If you can also get Logan into the lineup at LF, you do that. Is the expression robbing Peter to pay Paul the one I'm thinking of? Getting both of them in the lineup makes much more sense than not getting both in the lineup.
May 16, 200916 yr I guess my point is Gaby Sanchez's power potential is very low and his glove is awful anywhere but 1B, but unfortunately his bat doesn't play at 1B. His K/BB numbers have also normalized since hes started seeing more advanced pitching. He isnt a 23 year old in A ball anymore.
May 16, 200916 yr Author AA is the most advanced level, right? This is like, you're biggest thing, right? He had 69 BB to 70 Ks in AA. He had 17 HRs. He had 42 doubles. I understand that he might not have the best bat for 1B, but if you can find a way to get him and Logan into the lineup every day, it doesn't really matter who plays 1B, and if he can manage a good 1B and Logan can manage LF, that is probably the best way to go about it. His power potential isn't "very low". It's average, probably. He's never going to hit 30 home runs, but he's going to be good for 15-20, if his minor league record is any indication, and should provide you solid numbers across the board. He's not going to be a star, but you are vastly underselling his abilities.
May 16, 200916 yr He will never hit more than 10 in a season, if he even makes that total. Book it. He is more of a 8-10 HR/season guy, as his MiLB average is one every 60ish at bats. Expecting his doubles to stay high in MLB is wishful thinking to, as the better outfield defenses will likely curtail that. When the outfield will feature the likes of Stanton and Maybin, and either Hermida or Galloway(if he continues to progress), that would leave Sanchez the odd man out. He is already almost 26 years old too, so its doubtful there is any meaningful change to his game.
