Posted July 16, 200915 yr what exactly is a zephyr? on dictionary.com it says it's a breeze but on the logo it looks like a beaver
July 16, 200915 yr Wikipedia says the team was named the Denver Zephyrs in 1985, named for a famous passenger train. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denver_Zephyr
July 16, 200915 yr At the old amusement park in New Orleans, the main attraction was the Zephyr. When 6 flags came along their roller coaster was named the Mega Zeph in its honor. When the team moved, the name stayed because of the ride. BTW its a Nuturia not a beaver.
July 16, 200915 yr Author Isnt nutria a rat? i guess i looked it up and it says it's an aquatic rodent native to south america. i still don't understand what it has to do with a zephyr train.
July 18, 200915 yr Who knows. Considering MLB teams' disdain for the Zephyrs(no MLB team wants the New Orleans affiliate and cant wait to switch to another when the opportunity arises), I guess having a beaver/rat as a mascot is the least of their worries.
July 18, 200915 yr Beats me, but they always get out of town as quick as possible(we are their 4th team in 6 years). Probably alot to do with climate and a mediocre ballpark.
July 18, 200915 yr As I recall they were the ones that didn't want to re-up with NYM because NYM always gave them a sh*tty team. Not the other way around. Could have been a PR move though, with NYM wanting out and NO not wanting to look like a bitch.
July 18, 200915 yr After spending all that time in Norfolk with arguably the best park in MiLB, would you really be satisfied with New Orleans either?
