July 29, 200917 yr BtBS has their latest power rankings out based on expected runs scored, expected runs allowed and expected winning %. http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2009/7/29/967505/btb-power-rankings-through-tuesday The Marlins are currently ranked 24th and despite this are still in contention. The "league adjustment" skewes the rankins a bit so most of the bottom teams are NL. Regardless this shows the Marlins have been able to remain in contention despite not playing particularly well. Any thoughts?
July 29, 200917 yr They say themselves in other articles we outperform that because of our baserunning. Same with San Fran. Still have to dislike our run differential though
July 29, 200917 yr how are we ranked so low? Those rankings are pure statistical based off the amount of runs we should score based off wOBA and amount of runs our pitching should give up based of tRA and amount of runs our fielding should give up based off UZR.
July 29, 200917 yr Author Interesting about the baserunning, I hadn't considered that part. I would've thought our baserunning to be a negative rather than a positive. Surprising to hear it actually benefits us.

Still have to dislike our run differential though While this is far from scientific, and the run differential still isn't a great thing, I did a quick scan for our 5 biggest blowout games. Wins: +8, 8, 7, 7, 7 Losses: -13, 11, 9, 8, 8 Those blowout are +37 and -49. Throw those out and we are roughly even, for whatever that's worth.
July 29, 200917 yr you'd have to apply that for every team, though. But yeah, run differitinal is more of a guideline than a fact. if didn't have starts from koronka/teddy/ect we'd be in better position, but again that goes for most teams
