November 6, 200916 yr Sun-Sentinel The Marlins were hoping to get outfielder Cameron Maybin to ride with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds while they are in town for this weekend's air show at Homestead Air Reserve base. Those plans fell through when they scheduled the center fielder for shoulder surgery instead. Monday, Maybin will undergo a procedure in South Florida to repair a partially torn left labrum. Maybin experienced some discomfort during the season, but it wasn't severe enough to keep him out of the lineup during his September call up or while he was at Triple-A New Orleans. Once the issue is corrected, Maybin will split time rehabbing in Jupiter and back at his North Carolina residence. He will be ready for spring training. Maybin essentially became a regular during the final month of the season when Jeremy Hermida went down with an oblique strain. He finished the campaign 20 for 64 (.312) with seven extra-base hits and 11 runs scored batting mostly out of the two- and eight-hole. Maybin is expected to be the Opening Day center fielder again in 2010. Because of his May demotion, he will not qualify for arbitration until after the 2012 season. Had he totaled another two weeks or so of service time last season, he could have qualified as a Super 2 after 2011.
November 6, 200916 yr All I can say is that god it's his left shoulder or we'd be looking at the next Juan Pierre.

November 7, 200916 yr Since I read this I've wondered if this injury was in part responsible for some of Maybin's apparent problems when playing near or running to the fence late in the season. He seemed to be having a bit of difficulty out there in September any time he got too close. What I can't remember is whether it was him going to his left (which would have brought his right shoulder into contact with the wall or to his right which would have exposed his injured shoulder to possibly more injury. Oh BTW, Bonifacio started in right field last night for Licey, and at the top of the lineup, going 3/4 with a stolen base. Anderson Fernandez started at second but (using online translation) the players are expected to share the infield spot as the season goes on.
