Marlins get more TV territory

Featured Replies

If you live in the State of Florida and Southern Alabama, you are now eligible to recieve Florida Marlins Baseball Games that air on Fox Sports Net Florida as a local telecast. Your cable company and dish providers can legally air the games, even with MLB's blessing!

Amazing right? Well with Dish Network or DirecTV the games are now available to the entire TV territory as defined by MLB.

Now even Juan Pierre's family can see Marlins games.

geez, that's great considering that last year our TV territory barely made it to West Palm.

if you can get your cableco to pick Fox Sports Net Florida up, then you can see the games too.

If they have foxsportsnet then they should have it? Arent there some variations of foxsportsnet though?

btw whatever happend to Huizenga sportschannelflorida?

fox sports net florida is our regional channel in florida that airs Marlins games. Sportschannel became Fox Sports Net

What about the other 60 or so games that aren't aired on FOX? Will they be aired, too?

1) i'm assuming no (not on fox sports net), unless your local broadcast station opts to purchase the games

2) i'm hoping that number is much more than 60 next season, considering that the marlins have more fans now. since i don't have cable, i want to be able to watch as many games as possible on broadcast tv (and have fewer air on fox sports net)

Under the current TV contract that runs unti 2011 with Fox Sports Net Florida, they must air a minimum of 95 regular season Marlins games a year.

The Marlins Television Network contract that was originally signed by WAMI and Univision (WAMI's new owner) then relicensed to PAX called for 55 games a year in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm-Ft. Pierce, and Naples-Ft. Myers markets has expired.

The new contract will be sold by the team for 2004 and beyond with at least 55 games if not more and it looks like PAX will be directly talking to the team and FSN will only be hired to produce the games if PAX wishes. Viacom Stations Group of Miami (WFOR CBS4, WBFS UPN33, WTVX UPN34) and PAX (WPXM 35, WPXP 67) are the front runnning bidders.

So this means people in Alabama could be watching the marlins, and not me, a person who lives in Central Florida. :banghead

Fran, you are the victim of the evil powers that are Cable Companies "negotiating" with a regional sports network.

Bright House won't carry FSN unless it is on a seperate tier, but FSN won't allow it because barely anyone would see and those who do would have to pay extra for it.

Cape, your the man. I know I am not alone in saying this, so thank you very much for your efforts. It looks like that and the team's success have paid off. Too bad next baseball season, I am planning on living in Chicago! But at least there, I will be able to see every game...but for my dawgs here in Tally, they have hope!

You guys could get a mini-dish and get FSN through there. That's what I do since I live in an area cable doesn't even serve. I know Fran has road runner through cable so it is tough for him, but you can get FSN in Florida and Southern Alabama on DirecTV and Dish Network.

DirecTV has MLB Extra Innings which shows many Marlins games outside of Florida and Southern Alabama which is the Marlins home blackout territory. It is rumored that 2004 will bring MLB Extra Innings to Dish Network, but Ergen hasn't mentioned it in a while.

I recommend Dish Network over DirecTV. I have had both and DirecTV can't bill correctly and is over compressed.

Buy a dish... that's what I did!

Lucky you Johnny,

Dish will be launching locals in Tally so you can kill the cable totally and not have to use the rabbit ears.
