Posted July 12, 201014 yr Despite our disappointing year so far I was encouraged by Beinfests comments in the Herald the other day. "I don't think we're going to force anything. Now we're 18 months away from the new building (ballpark), so we have to keep an eye on that as well. We want to get our core, our base that we think is gonna head into the building and start to look forward." Along with him saying if they trade players it would not be a salary dump. The main thing I am concerned about is our consistent future. There is no doubt in my mind that with out farm system we can compete. I just want to see the commitment from ownership and the FO to consitently win. It appears that after we got the stadium ownership is willing to possibly invest more in the team. Hopefully!!
July 12, 201014 yr Admin Beinfest on Marlins: "Frustrated. Disappointed." It was clear from listening to Admin Beinfest that he and the rest of the front office are not happy with the team's performance and roster changes could very likely occur before the July 31 trade deadline. He said there have already been talks within the organization about what direction to take, but didn't go into specifics. Here are a few of the highlights: -- “Will we be active? Yes, always and it’s already starting. The chatter has picked up in the last week. Teams now have a pretty good idea of who they are and what they’re going to be heading into the break. I would have liked to have seen a run here on this road (trip) but were just kind of.. not giving us a sustained streak." -- "I don't think we're going to force anything. Now we're 18 months away from the new building (ballpark), so we have to keep an eye on that as well. We want to get our core, our base that we think is gonna head into the building and start to look forward." -- “We’re not writing of the season. You can get hot, things can happen — the old Colorado Rockies thing. It’s just been frustrating because we haven’t seen that coming yet and it’s hard to foresee it at this point. Beinfest noted that if the Marlins traded any of their players, it would not be a salary dump. (Keep in mind, the Marlins signed an "agreement" with MLB and the union over the winter to maintain player payroll at a reasonable level). July 12, 201014 yr I've not been against us selling at the break, and it's wrong to believe that doing so would be for pure salary purposes. It simply makes good baseball sense to get something for assets that are, considering prospects who need to be broken into the majors, surplus. If we can take a guy like Jorge Cantu or Cody Ross and trade them for a player who may be better in a year or two but may not be ready this year (or may even be surplus to the team they are on), that makes baseball sense while at the same time making baseball sense. That's why the trade deadline is such a big deal- teams not in the hunt this year can get pieces that are going to be worthwhile in the long run, while teams who are in position to make a run can get players that will make big contributions in the future. if anything, I worry about the FO having too much good intentions, in other words not trading players off a team that isn't worthwhile right now because they are worried about the perception amongst the fans. If we aren't a playoff team now (and haven't been with this group of players ever) then staying put isn't going to make us good now, and won't do anything to help make this team good in the future. I've been highly critical of the way the front office has been too timid in trades, only getting rid of the guys who were easiest to get rid of (and consequently getting little in return) yet not ever trading guys with value to get guys in value in return. I don't want to see the team being timid now when it should be obvious (after five years of coming up short in the playoff race) that we need to get better.
July 12, 201014 yr Its not a salary dump at all. It should be obvious right now you aren't going to win with this group of players. Why anyone wants to keep some of these guys around is beyond me.
