USC to Return Reggie Bush's Heisman Trophy

Recommended Posts

It appears USC is officially divorcing itself from Saints RB Reggie Bush, the former tailback who won a Heisman Trophy for the Trojans but brought discredit upon the program, culminating with severe NCAA sanctions.

This from a memo sent by the school's president-elect:

"The Trojan family honors and respects the USC sporting careers of those persons whose actions did not compromise their athletic program or the opportunities of future USC student-athletes. Accordingly, I have instructed the senior vice president for administration to remove athletic jerseys and murals displayed in recognition of (former basketball star) O.J. Mayo and Reggie Bush by mid-August -- before the incoming class of students moves on campus -- from Heritage Hall, the Galen Center and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The university also will return Mr. Bush's 2005 Heisman Trophy to the Heisman Trophy Trust in August."

That Honestley sucks for Reggie, he does have his replica that he will be able to keep but to have his accomplishments with the School being taken away is a shame.

Yeah okay whatever not a big deal you shouldnt dishonor the athlete you should dishonor the school.

The school was wrong for doing it in the first place, and they only have themselves to blame. You offer that to any 18 year old athlete going to college and they'll more than likely accept it.

This just made them look two times as stupid. They should put shame to themselves, not to Bush and Mayo.

Well, they haven't done anything to Bush or Mayo, just to the school and I understand completely. You can't punish them for breaking the rules yet let them flaunt things that came from the rule breaking.

There needs to be another way to do it. To me, removing Mayo's jersies or anything Bush would be dishonoring those athletes for what they've done for that school. It'd be like... a parent disowning a child so they dont get in trouble with the law. Why tarnish Bush and Mayo's history at that school, everything they worked so hard at, everything they ever were in college? You know what USC is doing by removing this (more importantly the Mayo jersies than a Heisman, because that is somewhat more logical)... they are pretty much pretending that history never happened. Im sorry but there are so many better ways to handle this rather than to just disown the athletes.
