September 16, 201015 yr Personally, as stupid as Cowherd's is, I could actually imagine it. But I could never, ever imagine playoffs based off of different halves of the season, I think that's incredibly stupid. You don't have to imagine it my friend, it's real and exists in this sport. They do it in the minors, so why wouldn't it work in MLB? What happens if the same team wins both halves? I guess the extra wildcard team is a good idea. They do it in the minors... tell me again why that means it would work in the MLB? If it was in the MLB... that would be a reason as to why it could work in the minors, but not the other way round. It's really stupid. I cant believe more people arent all over this. Why would you ever, ever want a teams playoff status to be based off of just one half? So a team who simply catches fire can make the playoffs? Why dont we just make the season 81 games then? I mean... once a really good team like the Yankees secures a playoff spot they can just... you know... nap for the rest of the season if they want to. In fact... all of the Yankees fans have absolutely no reason to care what happens in the second half of the season. Or any team's fans when that team makes the playoffs for that matter. I see no common sense in this playoff format. I dont follow minor league baseball, but I'm shocked to hear that something so stupid is honestly in tact. But at least it makes sense in the minors since your roster is shifting so much due to callups... fair enough.

There's a lot of problems with it, noone doubts that and I don't think a single person on here has said it was a good idea (especially because it already failed once). But I still think it's a better option than the ridiculous Cowherd plan. Baseball, as has been said, is not conducive to tournaments. To take away 30 games in the season and make it 16 teams, you could easily end up in October with some really mediocre teams in the playoffs. And it'd be ever worse in the AL, where 8 out of the 14 teams would make the playoffs. If that tourney was in place now, the A's, who were 2 games under .500 at the start of the month, would have made the playoffs.
September 17, 201015 yr Either way, I dont think it's important to determine which is honestly the stupider of the two. Because they're both incredibly stupid. I on one hand think that one is slightly stupider than the other, but you can think the exact opposite. The bottom line really doesnt change though - they're both really stupid. I just dont know why only one other person than myself voted to keep it the same. Baseball's playoff system is one of the few beauties about how the MLB goes about their business, among tons of flaws.
