Bulls' trade could be sign to Heat

MIAMI ? Saturday's blockbuster trade between Toronto and Chicago showed anything remains possible for the Heat.

 

Foremost, with Chicago exchanging the high-end salary of guard Jalen Rose for the equally bloated contract of Toronto center Antonio Davis, it demonstrated that a max contract does not necessarily leave a team maxed out on the trade market.

"If you want to do something, you can find another team that wants to do something," said Heat guard Eddie Jones, whose contract is in the same $12 million stratosphere as Rose and Davis. "Anything is possible."

 

With Rose and Jones each with four seasons remaining on their contracts, it means the Heat was at least in position to make an offer equitable to the Bulls' package that landed Davis, power forward Jerome Williams and second-year forward Chris Jefferies from Toronto. Chicago wound up also sending forwards Donyell Marshall and Lonny Baxter to the Raptors.

 

Now the question becomes whether Chicago, in a league starved for height, will deal one of its young big men, Eddy Curry or Tyson Chandler. The Bulls, who now count only erratic Eddie Robinson as an athletic perimeter presence, long have had interest in Jones.

 

"The whole management has changed from what it is now," said Jones, wooed in 2000 as a free agent by deposed Bulls General Manager Jerry Krause. The Chicago Tribune in Saturday's editions linked Jones for Bulls point guard Jamal Crawford, which would allow Heat point guard Dwyane Wade to shift to shooting guard.

 

Jones was among those unaware of the pending Chicago-Toronto trade until just before facing the Raptors on Saturday night at AmericanAirlines Arena. The deal will not be made official until NBA offices re-open from the holiday break on Monday. None of the players involved attended Saturday's game.

 

Heat coach Stan Van Gundy reserved judgment.

 

"I don't really have a reaction," he said. "It's too close to game time for me to have a reaction."

Again at the top of his game, Raptors guard Vince Carter was particularly pleased to call his own number with the winning shot in Friday's 87-86 victory in Orlando.

 

Carter, who won it with a fadeaway jumper with 12.5 seconds to play, offered two options to coach Kevin O'Neill.

 

"It was like a dream where I was the coach and I could draw up my own play," he said, "I gave him two plays and he picked one of them and then it worked out pretty well."

Still on the market is Trail Blazers forward Rasheed Wallace, who once again is out of favor in Portland. The Heat, however, lacks General Manager John Nash's requirement of "a quality player with a short-term contract who doesn't have baggage." All of the Heat's big-ticket contracts have at least four seasons to run. Wallace is in the final year of a deal that pays $17 million this season. ...

 

Bulls operations chief John Paxson has confirmed that Heat television analyst Mike Fratello was considered for the Chicago coaching vacancy that Friday went to former Suns coach Scott Skiles. ... Heat players will deliver Christmas trees to pre-selected families Monday.? ? ?

how great would it be to get rid of Jones' contract for one of those young big men in chicago who i dont believe have signed any long term extensions, and possibly pick up a true PG.

Even though I'm starting to like Jones especially since hes been playing well this season. It would be better for the Heat to get rid of his contract to give us some cap room.

 

Tyson Chandler and Jamal Crawford for Eddie Jones. Sound good to me.

get rid of jones contract=very important

i think it would be great. get rid of Jones' salary, pick up a young 7 footer who's still playing at a rookie salary and gives us a presence in the middle, pick up a young guard who i believe is in the last year of his contract (maggs or rune should know since i think theyre bulls fans, i dont think they've signed him to an extension). this would be great, i think they would have to throw in someone else to make the salaries exchanged match, but still this would great

lets wait for das or someone else to say that this is insane and has no shot of happening. im not saying this is going to happen, i dont know if they've even talked about the possibility but this article made me feel good, so please try to allow me to keep this good feelings

It will be easier to trade Jones now that he is having an all-star caliber first half. If we could get good size in our frontcourt in exchange, I don't see a lot of reasons to hesitate.

i think we have to trade jones no matter how good he does-hes just not worth the money...

Your correct marlins02 they havent extended Crawfords contract and is a free agent next year.

Are you serious? Any deal for Jones, you would get one of those players. Paxson is not that dumb and I doubt The Bulls would EVER pull a trigger sending two of their biggest players for one overhyped piece of junk.

Yeah they would have to match the salarys maybe they would include Antonio Davis. Even though I wouldnt really want him, I think he still has 3 years left in his contract and is well overpayed also.

Yeah that what I thought too but wasnt too sure if the money amount was close to Eddie Jones. How bout Jerome Williams? I know hes overpayed too but I dont think as much as Davis.

im not sure about jerome, i think he makes about 5 mill but i really dont know. i think he has around 2-3 years left on his deal

unless chicago is under the salary cap to take on the contract of eddie jones, it wont work according to the salary cap rules.

I have no idea why the Bulls would trade for an overpaid player like Jones. However, there is a lot of talk that the bulls want to trade crawford, and with davis in town, i could see us trading curry or chandler.

 

I personally don't know why we got davis with chandler and curry here, but I have a feeling we are going to trade crawford and one of the 2 big men. I hate that idea, because I think all 3 of them are going to be very good players, but I guess we'll see what happens.

 

I didn't like the trade with Toronto myself, giving up rose and not getting any scorers in return, I didn't like it at all. But hey, that's why i'm not working in the front office I guess.

even if the heat do trade jones, they're gonna wait til the trade deadline to do it cause they'll see where they are and if they have no shot at the playoffs they'll trade one of their best players....sounds familiar doesn't it?? :mischief2
