December 3, 200322 yr Phillies general manager Ed Wade has scheduled a news conference for 6 p.m. EST to announce a player trade. An AP reporter will staff the news conference and developments will be expedited. The AP-Philadelphia AP-ES-12-03-03 1650EST Milton for Punto and Silva
December 3, 200322 yr Wow, Philly's really shelling out the cash. Wasn't Punto a favorite of Admin Bowa's? Or was that Chase Utley? I can't tell them apart. Padilla, Wolf, Milton, and Myers? Not a bad starting 4.
December 3, 200322 yr Padilla, Wolf, Milton, and Myers? Not a bad starting 4. wolf and myers dont impress me much for some reason
December 3, 200322 yr This is a great deal for the Phillies. Until Milton gets hurt again, of course.
December 3, 200322 yr Padilla, Wolf, Milton, and Myers? Not a bad starting 4. wolf and myers dont impress me much for some reason Yeah we lit those guys up a couple of times. Really the only Phillies pitcher that didn't do too bad against us was Padilla if my memory serves me correctly.
December 4, 200322 yr Padilla, Wolf, Milton, and Myers? Not a bad starting 4. wolf and myers dont impress me much for some reason its probably cause you dont have an eye for talent
December 4, 200322 yr Great news! Milton is a slightly above average pitcher for the AL Central and is nothing more than a #3 starter on any NL East team. And overspending at $9M per year they've taken themselves out of the market for any more impact players. Also now they have two lefty starters, one lefty closer and their onl decent reliever is a lefty. And I don't think I have to tell you how the Marlins destroyed southpaws last year.
December 4, 200322 yr Wolf won 16 games last year. Myers won 14 games last year. They are young and only gonna get better. As for the trade....Punto didnt do too much here. Silva was a solid arm in the bullpen, but he could never start games consistent enough to be a starter. We needed an extra Lefty and now we got him...right before we sign Millwood. He would crazy not to sign with us where we could be a number one!
December 4, 200322 yr - Isn't Bud Smith slated to come back this year? - Why would Millwood want to come back and have fans boo him?
December 4, 200322 yr Bud Smith has been hurt since we got him. Millwood likes it here and the fans are what makes it great. We dont boo him, we boo his less than satisfactory appearances.
December 4, 200322 yr This is a great deal for the Phillies. Until Milton gets hurt again, of course. oooof, I don't know about a great or even good deal. Ya, they don't lose much, but 9 MILLION for a mostly average pitcher who has posted an ERA under 4.50 only ONE time in his injury-riddled career. There ARE better options on the FA market that wouldn't cost a decent MR and good bench fodder.
