Marlins tv deal

Featured Replies

This is one of the things that infuriates me about this ownership.

The Marlins have one of the worst TV deals in the game, including how much they are paid for their rights and the total amount of coverage.

But it didnt have to be that way. FSN offered the 15 year deal in 2005, and Loria snatched it up. There was no out clause, and Fay Vincent and others tried to talk him out of it because it was expected local TV rights werre going to start shooting up. It was a bad deal even then. But Loria wanted his money NOW.

The most egregious thing about it, however, is it is one of the reasons Loria continutally spouts when he tries to defend slashing payroll..."The TV deal is bad". Yes it is, but you hastially signed it when you had a plethora of people telling you not to. It is Loria's fault and Loria's fault alone. And the worst part is by the time the Marlins rights come back again, it is expected that local broadcasting fees are going to start trending downwards.

Given Loria's widespread incompetence, anyone else starting to suspect that the prized piece in Loria's art collection is a picture of some dogs playing poker?

I'd be curious to see what kind of deal they'd get right now on the open market? Ratings are at an all time low and don't look to improve anytime soon.

No ... but that was damn funny.
