July 22, 201313 yr so yeah I'm copying LeBatard's show, but anyone care at all what Erik Bedard did, taking himself out in the 7th at 100+ pitches when he had a no-hitter going? I guess Curt Schilling was ripping him for it. Bedard's had like 3 shoulder surgeries I think, so he's trying to keep himself healthy. Plus he's on a minor league contract & he'd like to play for another 2 or 3 seasons. On the other hand 6 more outs and he has himself a no-hitter.
July 22, 201313 yr It was also a tie game at the time, he had walked 5 batters, and, come on, 109 pitches and not even through a full seven? He didn't want to have happen to him what happened to Johan.
July 22, 201313 yr Author Wasn't he down 2-0 actually? At any rate should he have at least gone for it? Personally I'd tell Schilling to go eff himself. * actually yeah 109 pitches and I guess it was only 6 1/3, seems like a no-brainer to me, you're talking about probably 30 more pitches.
July 22, 201313 yr Author also it ain't like the Astros are in the playoff chase here.... anyway, not terribly shocking coming from Curt Schilling.
July 22, 201313 yr Personally I'd tell Schilling to go eff himself. This, I can't stand this guy whenever I see his ESPN work. I think Bedard did the right thing, 109 pitches through 6 1/3 innings with his history.
July 22, 201313 yr "I've had three shoulder surgeries," Bedard said. "I'm not going over 110. I'd rather pitch a couple more years than face another batter." Fair enough I say.
