Us in the DWBL Trade Room were having a DWBL Trade Debate so lets put one here.

1st Were Discussing who Is better Now and in the Future. Mark Prior or Josh Beckett?

2nd we are/were Discussing Giantsin04's saying that Beckett is a 1 game wonder.

What do you all think?

That smoking weed and using drugs aren't good for you . . .

Comparing Beckett and Prior is in my mind like comparing Pedro and Maddux. Makes no sense to try to argue it because they are both really good and most teams would want both.

Prior has had a better career thus far since he has been healthy and been dominant all throughout his career. Though Beckett hasnt been healthy, he is as dominant as Prior when he is. Plus one choked a series away and the other threw a complete game shutout to win the world series. :D

As far as being a one game wonder, thats idiotic talk. Becketts biggest problem has been health. But he has been absolutley impressive otherwise. Every team in the league would take Beckett if they could right now. Plus I recall him throwing two complete game shutouts in the playoffs. Is that what most one game wonders do?

Its tough for you to argue because they have numbers on their side. But Im almost positive that Beckett, if healthy, will be competing for Cy Young.

Right now I give the nod to Prior but thats only becayse of health. Beckett is an ace. He proved it in the playoffs.

I read an article from a couple of years ago that forecasted the Beckett and Prior would be HUGE. They were right about Prior, so whoever forsaw this could go 2 for 2.

You're a Yankee fan.

You know FIRST HAND that they already are 2 for 2.

1985 Kansas City Royals

You can never be too sure... ;) edit: oh yeah, Jared Wright

Josh Beckett didnt exactly come out of nowhere. He was pre-season (that sounds so wierd when talking baseball) Rookie of the Year favorite in 2002 (?), but sat out with blister problems. 2003 he had more injury problems, but when healthy (i.e. last couple months of season, plus the WHOLE POSTSEASON), he has shown why he was that ROY favorite, and why he was a 1st round pick straight out of Spring, Texas.

there was a reason why he was the first pitcher drafted in 99 you know...

I believe beckett will be awesome like prior, that's what I was implying, but it wouldn't be the first time great young pitching didn't pan out.

Charlie Leibrandt, Danny Jackson, Bret Saberhagen, and to a lesser extent Mark Gubicza never really became as great as they "should of or could of" been.'

However, if the same guy predicted prior and becket being great, and he got Prior rihgt, he probably knows what he's talking about.

ala Brien Taylor?

Beckett isnt better than Mark Prior right now but watch next season and Beyond.

Beckett has Way better pitches than prior. The only thing prior is so good is because control but on Pitches beckett is better.

Beckett had been injured this whole year, so he proved himself at the end. In his rookie season he was adapting to Major League Baseball.

BTW: Who was Minor Pitcher of the year before he came up? It was Josh Beckett, not Mark Prior.

sounds like your placing a lot of faith on "some guy"

well anyone who follows scouting reports knows that Josh has multiple pitches ranked in the top of the under 25 bracket, Josh vs Prior is a wash but only one of them has a ring...

Prior got himself a NL Central Championship! haha

oh well, putting aside the "Marlins Bias" we should all enjoy the fact as baseball fans we have witnessed the emergance of two of the most impressive talents of this generation...

yeah, he seems to be dead on.

most likely "some guy" was the writer from BaseballAmerica... they are usually on the mark when it comes to rankings.
