April 21, 200323 yr Tuesday: Franklin (1-2, 9.18) vs. Penny (2-1, 5.29) Wednesday: Rusch (1-3, 8.57) vs. Pavano (2-2, 4.01) Thursday: Ritchie (1-1, 4.63) vs. Redman (1-2, 3.80) All NL East teams are at home: Mets vs. Astros, Braves vs. Cardinals, Expos vs. Diamondbacks, Phillies vs. Rockies.
April 21, 200323 yr I think that if we don't sweep this series we should simply be counted out as anything remotely similar to a contender. The Brewers' rotation has a very bad ERA. Both Penny and Pavano have been pitching great leately, and Redman didn't pitch that bad even though he struggled. Of course, it seems like every time we play somebody that we can easily beat we do otherwise. Franklin, Rusch, and Ritchie may all of the sudden look like a tandem of Cy Young, Walter Johnson, and Christy Mathewson (if something like that was ever possible :confused ) if only for one series the entire year... oh well!
April 21, 200323 yr I think that if we don't sweep this series we should simply be counted out as anything remotely similar to a contender. so I guess the Astros should give up their season?..... they just lost 3 of 4 to the Brew Crew.... I'll take a series win, but a sweep would be awesome
April 21, 200323 yr Author After losing there first six games, the Brewers have gone 8-5. Check out this stat: In three consecutive starts, Rusch gave up 11 hits, 1 hit, and then 11 hits.

April 21, 200323 yr What I actually meant, and I have been explaining myself quite a lot lately  , is that we should take advantage that we are playing a weaker team (even though they have been hot lately) outside of our division (thanks GOD!, I don't have to see the Braves, Mets, Phillies again for a while!), and try to get back at 500. It would be nice to sweep the series, but we need to win 2 out of 3 at least and we can do it. That part of considering ourselves out of contending caliber was a metaphor. Why are people taking what I write so literally? :banghead
April 21, 200323 yr Author Because saying that if we dont sweep the Brewers, we are in no way a contender does not sound like a metaphor. It sounds like exactly what it says. Thats why I believe you should always say what you mean and mean what you say.
April 22, 200323 yr Author As it is scheduled right now, we will also have favorable starting pitcher matchups in the Cardinals series. We will not have to face Matt Morris or Woody Williams, who are both pitching lights out. Things could change between now and then, but the probable matchups for the Cards series are: Burnett (0-1, 3.63) vs. Simontacchi (0-1, 11.25) Beckett (1-2, 3.81) vs. Tomko (1-2, 5.33) Penny (2-1, 5.29) vs. Stephenson (1-1, 6.06) We need to take advantage of this homestand.
April 22, 200323 yr I think they should take 2 at least & maybe a small chance at the sweep against the Brew. The Cards are much tougher, but I guess if we miss their top pitchers we'll have a shot, especially since AJ & Josh would pitch. The team just plays better at home usually for some reason. If Nunez gets put in the game tomorrow you will hear the boos though... A nice winning streak would be good, but I'll be happy if they can just keep winning series. 2 of 3, 3 of 4, etc. I want to see these pitchers be more economical with their pitches & go 7+ innings.

Thats why I believe you should always say what you mean and mean what you say. And interpreting what somebody says literally is then the perfect way for the open sharing of ideas and opinions, right? Give me a break! At some point people should be able to discern between facts and opinions without a dictionary on common sense. That was just my opinion. Yes, I don't think we have the killing instinct to be a contender. Yes, I do think that if we don't win against those teams that are clearly weaker than we are we really don't have it in us to take advantage of such opportunities. But that is my opinion. Can you live with that? Besides, the comparison with Houston is not valid simply because I was not making a comparison. I was talking specifically about this team, since each team should be taken as a separate entity because they are made up of different individuals. I was simply sharing my personal opinion, not based on facts, and avoiding any kind of team cross comparison. It was just a normal expression for Christ's sake! How many times have you heard people say: "oh, if you are not able to pull out such and such, then you don't deserve this or that"? I was simply expressing my feelings. Is there space in this discussion board for the open expression of feelings without being taken seriously when no seriousness was intended? Do I have to explain every single thing or spell out what is a fact and what is an opinion from now on? GOSH! :banghead
April 22, 200323 yr if you arent being serious than use an emoticon or smiley just to make sure :mischief2
April 22, 200323 yr There certainly are alot of new 'rule-makers' on the board this season! How did we ever get on without them??????
April 22, 200323 yr The Brew Crew's bats have been heating up. I figure Penny or Pavano can shut them down. The other two games will be close and we'll split.
April 22, 200323 yr Author eadearmas, I think you completely misunderstood what I was saying. I know 99% of the things said on here are opinions. What I was trying to say is that if someone is making an opinion only in writing, they should really feel that way (even if its just at that time) unless its a clearly a joke. Because when you read, its just hard to judge some tone of voice when you cant hear people speaking, thats all. Im sure if I would have heard you saying that in person, I would have understood exactly what you meant. I totally agree with everything you said in last post. Absolutely nothing wrong with discussion of opinions.
