December 8, 200322 yr Um.... Pudge was overpaid for 2003. This organization was not going to do the same thing twice.....His parting comments show a lack of professionalism.
December 8, 200322 yr No one here would take it too well if their employer asked them to take a pay cut after producing the way Pudge did. See, but it's not really a pay cut. We overpaid him last year, and everyone knew it. We did so he'd agree to a one year deal. There's no way to justify signing him at the same price for multiple years.
December 8, 200322 yr Author Pudge would have been making about $13 million if we signed him for $10 mil a year, plus the deferred $3 mil. As someone pointed out before, Lowell had a better season, and Pudge wanted more than him. Greedy SOB.....
December 8, 200322 yr Lowell is at the beginning of his prime. For Pudge he is a 32 year old catcher with TONS of games behind the plate. His best years are behind him.
