December 8, 200322 yr YES! Thank god for not caving in to that madman's demands. what a relief I tend to agree. I wanted "Pudge" back, but I also wanted him back without tying our FO hands with an overpaid contract.
December 8, 200322 yr No Deal, sounds pretty official Full article from ESPN.COM now http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=mlb&id=1680988
December 8, 200322 yr The next few days are critical for the Marlins future. This can either turn into a huge negative or a big positive towards the stadium deal. Right now its important that the front office get out and spin this as greed and an example of exactly why we have to have a stadium. Sadly, alot of this depends on how the media decides to cover it which is almost entirely out of the Marlins control.
December 8, 200322 yr "I tried my best to remain a Marlin by not requesting a salary increase. To my knowledge, I'm the only major leaguer in recent times who won the World Series and received a postseason MVP award, and yet his club did not offer a higher salary." SHUT UP! I wanted to resign him, but he's so misleading about this whole thing. We overpaid his a** last year to get him to sign a one year deal. No one else was offering more than 7 mil. 8 mil a year, for 3 years, was as close to raise as he's going to get. I wish him well still, but he's making me very bitter. Actually, I hope he plays great somewhere next year, but for less than we were offering him.
December 8, 200322 yr Whoever gives in to Pudge/Boras' demands better pray he doesn't get injured taking a beating from all those foul balls he will get beaned with over the course of the season... Castro better be innocent...
December 8, 200322 yr Well Gredo, I hope you tear your ACL. You betrayed a city that loved you. This wasn't Texas, where they didn't want you. We wanted you. The Marlins wanted you. The city wanted you. You heard it when they would chant your name in the playoffs, when you got the loudest of ovations even though others had done better the night before. You are an a**hole. A first class prick. You are the symbol of everything that is right with the world and with this game. I don't believe in my right mind anyone should receive 10 million dollars a year for playing a game. But you know what, if that is going to happenb, you still shouldn't be one of them. Because making alot less produced alot more. Have a nice day, go somewhere else. Got to New York, they like your kind there. Just get out of here before you break us even more. And I am supposed to finish English like this? Supposed to sleep after this? Thanks for the good times. And thanks for showing everyone a positive example.
December 8, 200322 yr lets all just let soem stress off and say f*** off pudge! bring on javy i think we will be big players for him and i am now a vlad beleiver
December 8, 200322 yr I'll say this- Boras must know what he's doing. He wouldn't turn down a deal if no other clubs truly wanted his player at that price. Something tells me someone unexpected will sign Pudge to the contract he wants (or closer to it than we offered).....just like WE did last year. He's not the best agent in sports for nothing. And no, I'm not going to take a holier-than-thou approach. I'm taking the high road. I appreciate what Pudge has done for this city, both in and out of uniform. Good luck, and thanks for the memories.
December 8, 200322 yr the jerk still whines about not getting a RAISE!!! To my knowledge, I'm the only major leaguer in recent times who won the World Series and received a postseason MVP award, and yet his club did not offer a higher salary."
December 8, 200322 yr Can't wait until tomorrow to hear a few more details regarding the negotiation.
December 8, 200322 yr boras is having a rough offseason so far..... he cant get arod traded.... cant get brown traded.... cant make any of the problem contracts he has disappear....and have his players go where they want... i wonder why?
December 8, 200322 yr Pudge only turned it up going into the post-season...He was horrible the first month (all those passed balls), his bat was disappointing until late in the season, he only looked like he deserved a pay raise in October...If the Marlins hadn't won Wild Card, he would have been extremely overpaid for his one season of work.... I guess in his mind, "I won you a World Series pay me more.." without even realizing no one else wanted to pay him anywhere close to what he wanted, the MArlins gambled on him and took him in, he was close to his family, and then he pulls this act of greed? To me this stings more than the firesale of '98 because this time the Marlins are trying to keep the big players, and now there is a case of greed while Lowell and Castillo took less to stay and keep the team intact... I hope other teams realize his greed and lowball the sh*t outta him, and then he has no one to blame but himself for accepting a major pay reduction
December 8, 200322 yr The Pudge bashing is really out of hand. This is a business. No one here would take it too well if their employer asked them to take a pay cut after producing the way Pudge did. In retrospect, signing Lowell before Pudge may have backfired because all indictions are that the fact that he got a raise and was offered more money than Pudge didn't help the situation at all. At any rate it certainly strengthened the position that Boras and Pudge are going to spin. Its hard to see how the media could not side with the Marlins in this one, but stranger things have happened, especially when dealing with the media.
He's not the best agent in sports for nothing. . Boras recently blew the Millwood deal, and now blows this one as well. His megadeals with A-Rod and Manny have soured many. Times are changing, and Boras' ploys are no longer working. My bet is Scott will lose several clients as a result of his "success" this offseason.
December 8, 200322 yr Well,Pudge saved me money. Now when the Marlins play the padres I will not have to buy tickets. I did last year. I also bought a t-shirt and a few other things. Not signing him will cost the team on the road also. I do think the Marlins and Pudge were a perfect fit last year. To bad they have to part.
December 8, 200322 yr Chose not to keep the team together??? Resigned Fox, Castillo, and Lowell, and tried to find a way to keep Pudge in the process..What does he want besides a bloated contract...Apparently no one has informed I-Rod that big contracts are phasing out..If Pudge wants the years and money that he wants, it would be in his best interest to play for an AL team when injuries and age force him to DH
December 8, 200322 yr The Pudge bashing is really out of hand. This is a business. No one here would take it too well if their employer asked them to take a pay cut after producing the way Pudge did. No, it isn't. None of us make ten f***ing million dollars. Do you make ten f***ing million dollars? Because if someone told me "Hey, we can only afford you at nine million dollars." I would say f*** it, its still nien f***ing million dollars. The difference between 80,000 and 100,000 is a lil more prefound than the difference between 8,000,000 and 10,000,000.
