1. I'm willing to bet the Reds road drawing prowess is inflated due to the division they play in with the Cubs and Cards.
2. It makes baseball sense, but its not going to be pretty for PR. This isn't playstation where you can wheel and deal till your soul is content with any ramifications from the public. If a deal goes down we're going to have to do a good job of spinning.
3. I think Mota has been asked to throw more than one inn too many times. 17 games thus far and he's been asked to go one plus 7 times. If you look at his stats, ERA is basically a scratch between LA and FLA, a little better in LA, but Ks per 9 is way up. I think he's been filthy here for the most part. It would be interesting to see how he was used in the two games he blew and the days that proceeded them (i.e. was he asked to go more than one inn)
4. Too bad we didn't sit Conine like everyone wanted to a couple of months ago. Score another one for track record.
5. Nice to the see Marlins audience is up, but I don't think that the numbers back up the general statement that sports is golden for TV. The ratings aren't that great compared to what the packages cost in general. Thats why the NBA has almost completely left network television. Even the success of this year's Olympic ratings is only relative to the Sydney ratings which were consider disappointing.
6. Nobody we'd want to trade would clear waivers, except for probably Enc.
7. we couldn't beat the Braves when they sucked and we were hot so i wouldn't count on sweeping 6 from them now that they're healthy and good. I'm afraid we've pissed away the playoffs against the pirates, expos, and Dbacks.
8. How did MLB end up with arbitration? I've always assumed its because of the anti-trust exemption?
9. If we were in a normal market, average situation i wouldn't be all that gun ho about basically reinventing the wheel at the trade deadline at the expense of the future. BUT we're in South Florida fresh off a World Championship and still without a stadium deal in place. Hate that we had to lose Choi, but we ended up making out like Bandits. Excellent trades when you consider that we're dealing like theres no tomorrow in hopes of finally cementing the stadium.
10. in beinfest i trust 485175 Its like Britney Spears in Fahrenheit 911. Please if you're going to support or trash the trade have a better reason than this. Its a cop out answer. I think Beinfest is a good GM, but thats not how I decide what I think about what he does. Even talented people make mistakes, just like complete slobs get some stuff right.
11. Phillies Acquire Felix Rodriguez They gave up Ledee and a minor league pitcher
12. Can all the people that think we're going to resign Pavano please mail me whatever it is that you're on...
13. The only problem I have is that it seems like we overpaid. If they wouldn't give us Ishii instead of Enc then they should have either ate some of Enc salaries (which theres a strong likelyhood they did) or we should have got a mid level prospect back. We had them by the balls since apparently the DBacks want Murphy bad and now we find out that they want to move Penny for Johnson. Bottom line is that I think we should have got more back for the best Pitcher on the market (unless you count Johnson as being on the market), a young, cheap, good and improving 1B, and our top pitching prospect. As it is we may just have rentals. I was initially really against the trade but when you look at the mitigating circumstances for us (the stadium) it makes more sense. We have to win at all costs this year if we're going to have a future. What would make this a coup is if we can turn Enc, Stokes, nunez, etc around for Admin Walker. And if you look at it from the win at all costs mind set, we can probably give them enc, nunez, stokes, and a pitcher to get them to eat next year's money. I guess I didn't realize how much trouble the stadium bid is in. Atleast thats my read.
14. No one is disputing that he's an awesome setup man, just that he's not some young up and coming stud. This is his prime/peak.
15. The farm system is worthless if we don't get a stadium deal. Thats what all these moves are about.
16. I love this trade!!! Damn i cant believe we got one of the best future relievers in baseball, Mota! And an awesome catcher. 485063 Seriously, he's 32 years old. The future is now, or more like was 5 years ago. Everyone (myself included) seems to have had this idea that Mota was some young, hot, up and coming Dotel type setup/closer. What happened? Is he Dominican and aged five years or something?
17. If we can pull of Walker for Enc, Nunez, etc. then this was a good deal. Unfortunately I think it makes it clear that we're going for broke this year to try and secure a stadium deal, the future be damned. Yes, I can see this happening. Got to worry that God forbid we don't make it this year to the playoffs...what then? 484638 Its over. The stadium is the whole ballgame. Clearly the Marlins think that winning this year is the key to getting a stadium.
18. First Base is the easist position to stick someone at. Willingham might be perfect there. If we turn around and move Enc and a package for Admin Walker, I'll fall down and worship at Beinfest's feet. Enc, Stokes, and Nunez all strike me as Coors field type guys. 484629 Guys, have you all realized the $ part of the trades. If we get Walker we wont sign Pav, Cabs, etc...where the f would we get the money from??? 484637 That was a given anyway. If we don't get Walker Pavano won't be resigned. Getting a stadium is the whole ballgame. We still don't have a stadium deal in place firmly. Its pretty clear from the signals that the front office has been sending (that hermida was the only untouchable in our system) and now with this trade(s) that we're going to go for broke this year in the hopes of getting a stadium deal. Then we'll scrap up the pieces from there. But without a stadium deal, its game over.

20. If we can pull of Walker for Enc, Nunez, etc. then this was a good deal. Unfortunately I think it makes it clear that we're going for broke this year to try and secure a stadium deal, the future be damned.
21. Umm this move basically guarentess pavano will be resigned. the FO isnt stupid to let go the only thing that makes this team good which is SP. 484426 I don't see anyway we can afford to resign Pavano. I'd love to be proved wrong.
22. this whole mess isnt over. beinfest isnt stupid. we have had the luxury of 5 starters last year and 4 solid ones this year. he wouldnt trade away penny without knowing he could aquire a 5th starter to fill that hole.he has seen how wayne and bump havent worked out so he will not leave us without a 5th starter. should he aquire Lowe which i think he will or another solid starter(ishi) this trade is great.Penny was gone anyway at the end of the year and now we can keep pavs.just think.... 484357 Reality check, Pavano is gone after this year. Bank on it. Freddy Garcia just got $8mil a year. The highest paid player on our team makes $8mil a year. Is Pavano the best player on the team? Lo Duca won't be here next year, he's expected to get $8mil in arbitration. Everyone needs to enjoy this year because whats happening is we're going down in a blaze of glory this year in hopes of securing a stadium deal. Then we'll go into the dark ages until it gets built. And thats the *optimistic* scenerio. If we don't get the stadium deal, Lowell opts out of his contract and we become the Expos.
23. We couldn't afford to give Pudge $8 mil a year. We couldn't afford to give Penny $8mil a year. But we'll give $8mil a year to Lo Duca? I think its safe to say he's gone. Mota we can probably keep and he'll become our closer. I hope and pray we're going to turn around and move Enc and prospects for an OF or a SP.
24. If we hadn't gave up Choi I'd say great trade. As it is I think on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being it sucks and being it rocks I've give it a 2. I think we've got a good lineup now, but we overpaid. We should have had all the leverage in the deal with them using our pieces to trade with AZ, but we basically gave Choi away. I give the Dodgers an 6 on a scale of 1 to 5, 11 or 12 if they pull of the AZ moves with our guys.
25. if we do either of these would most likely need another deal either for a OF or for a SP. More realistically we could end up with Nunez in LF or Bump starting.
