espo397x
Projected rotation in 2004 for the Cubs: Mark Prior Kerry Wood Carlos Zambrano Matt Clement Angel Guzman Now, Guzman, I hope we'll be our fifth starter. he is pretty much the most prized pitcher in the minors. Could someone project the Marlins rotation so we could get this debate underway?
espo397x
I'll also posts the Cubs niftier looking bullpen. Please do the same for the Marlins. Farnsworth Cruz Remlinger Hawkins Borowski

DurableTear
Rotation: Josh Beckett Brad Penny Mark Redman Carl Pavano Dontrelle Willis AJ Burnett Josh Beckett Brad Penny Dontrelle Willis Carl Pavano I doubt AJ will be back in the rotation for 2004... I look for him to be our closer next year.

I look for him to be our closer next year. We don't know if he will be on the rotation or not, I'm with Ramp on his rotation. . . Also, Espo is making the assumption that Guzman will be promoted and be their 5th starter. . . . Burnett Beckett Penny Willis Pavano

rferry
Marlins, by a hair. Prior is better than AJ or Beckett, but the rest can match up against theirs and we have more depth at the major league level.
DTrizzle
its pretty even for the fact that clement is unpredictable and their fifth starter is really unknown right now but if redman stays and takes over willis or pav then the marlins is better
Marlins
Marlins.
Shamrock
I'd say Cubs, but not by much. And you can't compare bullpens as we can't hold ours together due to our payroll being 20+ million less.
Pubes Beinfest
maybe he meant mike maddux? lol
espo397x
Our fifth spot is kinda up for grabs... But Guzman is gonna be a helluva a starter, at one point or another. Maddux actually wants to come back tot he Cubs. He would be the third or fourth man, knocking clement to fifth. But that probably wont happen. In which case Guzman (hopefuly) or Juan Cruz could step up into the five spot. Also, Clement has been improving the past few years. Don't be surprised if he post more carreer highs in 04. A mid, high three ERA and win of 15 ish again. I'm really glad he's not on your side anymore. Maybe you guys could sign Alf back for your bullpen? LOL. Let's look at the match-ups.. Prior vs Burnett- Prior Prior vs Beckett- Prior Wood vs Burnett- Burnett Wood vs Beckett- Tie I Believe Dontrelle vs Zambrano- In my opinion, Carlos, though it is pretty even. Dontrelle sucked up the second half. Zambrano vs Penny- couldn't tell ya Clement vs Penny- Penny Clement vs Dontrell- Maybe Dontrelle, but I think he's been figured out our fifth starter vs your fifth starter- WHO KNOWS!? Shamrock
I think your underestimating the Marlins young arms. Yes, the Cubs are better, but by slim margins...why does every fan have to be such a homer?
espo397x
I'm not underestimating them.

Phlub
Cubs. The Cubs have the edge just because of Prior and Wood alone.
jonnylons
Wrong. It is the Marlins. Why? Can anyone on the Cubs staff pitch like Beckett?! Didnt you guys see the playoffs?! Game 6 Prior blew it. Game 7 Woods blew it. Beckett - Prior = tie. Yes, a tie. Prior is a good one, and had better stats. But just wait til Beckett puts together a whole season. Burnett - Wood = Burnett. Sure, Wood has better stats, but he has been healthy. Burnett is a gamer too, #1 stuff on pretty much any staff. But he and Beckett will be battling it out down here. When healthy, of course. Penny - Zambrano = Penny. Both of these guys have high ceiling, but both are plagued by inconsistency. Penny got it done when it mattered though, and may turn it around. We will see if Zambrano can keep his emotions undercontrol - or he aint ever going to be as good as he could be. Pavano - Clement = Pavano. Sorry, Clement could be an ace, or a bum. Pavano, when healthy (like this past season) proves he is reliable and capable of being a winning pitcher. On any other staff a #3 or #2. He will grow this year too. Willis - Cubs #5 = Willis. If you want Guzman, well, it is too early to tell but right now Willis is better. Cruz? Willis is certainly better. Plus, he can hit and is a lefty. Oh, and he didnt stink up the 2nd half - when it mattered, Sept. he went 3-1 with a 2+ ERA. Go check it out...(I hope I remember correctly!). We still havent mentioned Redman, but obviously he could be comparable to Pavano and Willis at this point - the latter two have more upside, but Redman is a solid, smart pro who will win more than lose more. Marlins over Cubs. Cubs really only have Wood and Prior at this point. We had a bunch of 14 game winners last year. They are only going to get better - Wood and Prior have peaked. $7KiddMike7$
IMO i think the Cubs have the best young pitching. I looooooove the marlins and all but i think Prior-Wood-Zambrano are a dominating trio. But im not excluding the marlins cause their rotation is right behind cubs. Beckett-Burnett AWESOME duo when healty. When Burnett is healthy i would then pick the marlins as the best young rotation. i hate the cubs but i still gotta say prior and wood cause they are unstoppable. FreshFish
i hate the cubs but i still gotta say prior and wood cause they are unstoppable. We stopped them on game 6 and 7 of the NLCS And espo397x and Ryppi, yeah I know that Steve Bartman is to blame, no need to remind me.
