January 24, 201610 yr Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said he expects there to be an open competition [b/t ramos and Capps] for the closer job in spring training, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
January 24, 201610 yr Best thing for the team is for Ramos to be the closer. Capps is the better pitcher, and you want your best pitcher not to be locked into a very specific role. Dellin Betances is better than Andrew Miller, so he is kept out of the closer's role and able to pitch the hardest parts of games. If 3-4-5 are coming up in the 8th, you want Capps in there, let Ramos face 6-7-8 in the 9th.
January 24, 201610 yr I'm sure they're engaged in trade talks for one or both of them. Doubt they wanna tip their hand of who they'd rather keep
