June 25, 20179 yr It is not automatic that the champ is in apparently but he has decided to do it anyway.
June 25, 20179 yr Foregone conclusion this year with it being his home ballpark. I guess they just had to make a formal invitation and he accepted. I wonder how often in the past the defending derby champion gets to defend in his home park and also how often the derby was won by someone from the home park team as well. But yea this is cool.

There have been two winners in their home ballpark-Ryne Sandberg (1990) and Todd Frazier (2015).

June 26, 20179 yr Author Get Bour in this too. He in all likelihood won't be in the game, Ozuna will so this way more Marlins can take part in All-Star Week.
June 26, 20179 yr I wouldn't count out Bour making the game as a player or coaches pick, being on the hometown team sometimes prevails. But yes Bour in the derby with Stanton makes so much sense especially since he's a lefty it would provide a variety there. I wonder if Stanton has any say or way of recommending Bour. I don't think it's done this way anymore but I remember a few years back when the Derby participants were picked by a league captain.
