July 18, 20179 yr He gets paid while on the DL. I was certain that he did, but if he wasn't it would certainly be important to play hurt to take care of his family. (Although he wife is doing her residency in the Miami area.) By playing hurt I would think he is endangering his longevity as a baseball player. So it must be a macho thing.
