December 20, 200322 yr What are the chances we can get one in Homestead? * Lives in Homestead * That'd be awesome. there is noway homestead will get the stadium...does anybody remember how bad the attendance was at the spring training games...the only people that play there now is h.s. and some collage tournaments...
December 20, 200322 yr I see. Dumbass Indians. Homestead is hungry for baseball. repeat after me: there is no way there will ever be a marlins stadium in Homestead, it's more likely you'll get the Homestead Expos than a marlins stadium.

December 20, 200322 yr My original post was a joke but there has to be SOME type of baseball here. And I'll be happy with the Homestead Expos.
December 20, 200322 yr I really think that the demographics of South Florida make it very, very difficult for baseball. Unlike football and basketball, baseball is more reliant on people saying "hey, let's go catch a game tonight" to fill their stadiums on a regular basis. In other words, the stadium needs to be convenient - that's why Pro Player doesn't work for baseball. I don't care how supportive your fans are, it takes motivation to take 6 hours (driving time + parking time + game time) out of your Wednesday night to go catch a ball game. And if you do it on Wednesday night, it's even tougher to rally to do it again on Thursday. This is the major impetus for a downtown stadium, and this is why i think it's either downtown or nothing. They've tried a stadium outside the city. The biggest reason Pro Player doesn't work is NOT that there's no retractable roof, or that it's too massive, or that the field gets torn up by football games - it's that it's a pain in the butt for pretty much everyone in South Florida to get to 81 times per year. They need a stadium that's convenient to the strongest portion of their fan-base, a location where passers-by can walk up to the ticket window and buy a ticket at game time. If they can't get that, they're done.

December 20, 200322 yr I know it is a long shot, but hoping the FO is still looking for suitors north of the Miami City limits. Downtown Miami has many limitations and was not the ideal location anyway. So we'll see if someone else will step up.
December 20, 200322 yr i think the city didn't take into account the money that would go into the name of the stadium- some one has to pay for it, unless it's Miami Stadium (which wasn't going to happen)
