January 9, 200422 yr Author your "accomplishments"...? you write for a website where your the only writer. I've writen well enough to be on the front page of a website with upwards of 3,000,000 hits. I, personally, consider that an accomplisment.
January 9, 200422 yr in general, private schools have significantly less "potential" for good students. private school teachers are, on the whole, less qualified than public school teachers. a lot of this has to do with the economics behind running a school as a business. private schools have to supply an education with what little they can raise. the vast majority of private schools are not of the caliber of a phillips/andover or an exeter. for a number of reasons, including having fewer qualified teachers, the vast majority of private high schools can't even offer half as many AP courses as an "average" public high school. for the obvious reasons(SES), many of the lowest achieving students are excluded from the private school student pool. also for obvious reasons, most public high schools don't boast as high average SAT scores and college entrance rates... public schools have a much higher proportion of underachieving kids who cannot afford private school. the only public schools immune to the law of averages are magnet-only schools (e.g. all-gifted Nova HS in broward county... i'm pretty sure that was ranked #1 or #2 in the entire country.) the bottom line is that most private schools just can't offer the level of education offered by public schools. i wouldn't dare send my kids to a private high school unless it was one of the elite (= $$$$). i probably wouldn't even want my kids going to a private elementary school unless i had serious issues with the local public school.
