January 6, 200422 yr My school is on block, so we started a new set of four classes for the second half, and today we found out our new schedules. Because of limited space in the class, everyone that wanted to join newspaper had to turn in a writing sample, all of which would be reviewed and either accepted or rejected. Seventeen writing samples were submitted, and only one was accepted. Guess who got the spot? Like I said, I know nobody cares, but I'm ecstatic to the largest extent and I felt like I had to share. I'm also the only freshman that has/was on the newspaper staff this year. :thumbup

January 6, 200422 yr My school's on block too, we switch classes in like 2 weeks. But congrats, that's great.
January 6, 200422 yr Author and lose the tude Besides my being "overly confident," what attitude? :lol
January 6, 200422 yr Author The thing that I'm proud of is the fact that I beat out seventeen other people, eight of which were seniors and four juniors all looking for extracurricular activites (I'm sure they're all pissed that a freshman took the spot).
January 6, 200422 yr block schelduing is worthless. its not like it solves the problems they set out to solve.
January 6, 200422 yr block schelduing is worthless. its not like it solves the problems they set out to solve. Expecting the majority of school districts in this nation to do anything worth doing is hopeless. Poorly run and/or poorly financed. Most of the school districts around here couldn't pass a levy to save their lives. And the people who vote no are the same people who whine about kids today.
January 6, 200422 yr Author block schelduing is worthless. its not like it solves the problems they set out to solve. Our school is going to regular scheduling after this year, which I personally don't like, but w/e.
January 6, 200422 yr just get quality teachers by raising pay and allocating funding to education instead of to this stupid war in Iraq and then let teachers teach instead of worrying about stupid tests. if you teach the subjects the passing of tests would follow. too many 'leaders' have no clue.
January 6, 200422 yr regular schedules are just fine. trying to keep the attention of teenagers for more than an hour is difficult to do even in things that interest them, imagine what its like in subjects they dont care about at all.
January 6, 200422 yr Author if you teach the subjects the passing of tests would follow. I agree 100%. Teachers now teach by the F-CAT (or whatever the standardized test in your area is called). They'll basically cover a section of the F-CAT over a certain period of time, and continue on without concern toward struggling students because of the fact they have to cover everything the test includes by the time students have to take it. In other words, they go at the pace of the test, not the students, which IMO is why so many are struggling.

January 6, 200422 yr another reason why private schools are so much better than 95% of the public schools in this nation.
January 6, 200422 yr another reason why private schools are so much better than 95% of the public schools in this nation. Which is why I'm damn well happy in my prep school, I had an awesome conversation with my guidance councelor today and it's nice when you have A GC that actually gives a s***. I was in Public before so I do have a base of comparison and I'm so happy my parents put the money up.
