Marlins' William Kempner To Undergo Elbow Surgery - MLB Trade Rumors

Marlins manager Clayton McCullough announced Wednesday that righty William Kempner will undergo elbow surgery. Specifics weren’t provided, but Marlins.tv host Craig Mish suggested an absence of 12 to 14 months. If that’s indeed the case, it would likely point to a UCL-related procedure. In some instances, surgeons don’t know whether a full ligament reconstruction (Tommy John surgery) or less-severe internal brace is needed until they begin the operation and get a clearer look at the damage. The team will surely provide further specifics when they’re available.

Andrew Nardi To Undergo Elbow Surgery - MLB Trade Rumors

Marlins lefty Andrew Nardi will undergo elbow surgery, manager Clayton McCullough told reporters on Monday (link via Corey Seidman of MLB.com). That’ll obviously end his 2026 season and, depending on the nature of the procedure, is likely to impact next year as well.

The news comes as a surprise considering Nardi wasn’t previously known to be dealing with an elbow issue. The southpaw has been on the injured list since late May with a stress reaction in his ribcage. Nardi apparently hurt the elbow after starting a throwing program in recent weeks. McCullough didn’t provide details on the forthcoming procedure beyond noting that Nardi is “looking at a lengthy time away.”

Marlins Release Leo Jimenez - MLB Trade Rumors

The Marlins have moved on from veteran infielder Leo Jimenez. He’s been released, per his MLB.com transactions log. Jimenez was designated for assignment on Thursday.

Marlins Notes: Bender, Fairbanks, Meyer - MLB Trade Rumors

Anthony Bender has seemingly hit a setback. Per the MLB.com injury tracker, he was scheduled to throw off a mound this past weekend but has instead stopped throwing. He made a rehab appearance August 18 but had lingering soreness in his right shin after. He is now set for re-evaluation.

On the other hand, it does seem like Pete Fairbanks is on the verge of rejoining the club. Per the report linked above, he recently threw live batting practice and a “bullpen-like” session and is now expected to be reinstated from the IL on Wednesday.

Turning to the rotation, right-hander Max Meyer has finally resumed throwing. He landed on the IL on July 19 due to a neck strain, so he’s been out of action for over seven weeks now. It’s encouraging that he has resumed throwing but he doesn’t have a lot of time left to build up after that long layoff. Even if he is able to rejoin the Marlins before the season is done, he surely won’t be stretched out.

Though the end of June, the team’s relievers had a collective 3.38 ERA, fifth best in the majors. Since then, the bullpen has a combined 5.03 ERA, fifth worst in the majors.

Marlins Activate Xavier Edwards, Place Owen Caissie On 10-Day IL - MLB Trade Rumors

The Marlins activated second baseman Xavier Edwards from the 10-day injured list today.  Edwards will take the roster spot vacated by outfielder Owen Caissie, who heads to the 10-day IL with a lumbar stress reaction.  Miami manager Clayton McCullough told El Extrabase’s Daniel Alvarez-Montes and other reporters that Caissie’s season is “likely done.”
