The Rap Game

DISCLAIMER:

This was not meant to be a debate, I was simply stating my opinion on the state of the Rap Game.

I understand everyones opinion is different and i respect all of yours, thank you and enjoy.

The State Of Rap: by KJC.

The first thing I would like to emphasize is since when must we call it Hip Hop? The artists arent known as Hip Hoppers they are Rappers therefor I call it Rap. Labeling music is one of the problems with todays entertainment scene, acording to the record industry every form of music must have its pre set genre to fit neatly into the shelves at your local music store.

The biggest problem in my mind for the rap game is mainstream media. MTV has found a way to make even the most lude hardcore rappers of our time into soft cuddly marketable puppets. The term "Gone PoP" explains it exactly, I have nothing against artists making the big money but to me this is taking the easy way out.

Top 5 Pop Sellouts:

Big Snoop Dogg. It really hurts me to say it because this man was the ultimate gangsta rapper and a part of my favorite section of the early 90's ( G funk / West Side ) but now instead of Blunts and 40's he is rapping about things that are BEAUUUUUUUUUUTIFUL with Pharell Williams.

P. Diddy aka Puff Daddy aka Sean "Puffy" Combs aka MC Hammer. This man may be a money making genious but that does not make him a rapper. Puffy has basically become a cartoon character, he either dresses in a Zoot Suit like the character Mugsy in the Bugs Bunny cartoons or wears a T Shirt that is 3 sizes too big.One question; Whats WIth The Damn Toothpick? Have some class.

Ja Rule. For some of us it is hard to even admit that Ja sold out, we just assume he was always a wannabe DMX who sings love songs. Its true though at one time Ja was a rugged underground rapper who actually had skills.

50 Cent. This one is going to get me some heat so let me explain my opinion. When Fitty was underground he had some of the sickest rhymes you will ever hear, he was a mixtape legend before any of us saw In Da CLub on MTV. I cant blame him much because he is now rich and famouse but his videos are clearly aimed for the PoP audience. The name of his first major released album also makes you realize its all about the benjamines for 50 also "Get Rich Or Die Tryin"

Jay Z. This guy may be the best lyrical mind in the game but guess what? He Is PoP. Nobody should have to brush theyr shoulders off that much unless they have a serious scalp condition. Much like Snoop he also does duets with the former neptunes beatmaker Pharell Williams who by the way CANT SING.

That is my negativity vent, if i get positive responses i will do my positive view another time. Thank You.

snoop dogg sold out death rows.

puffy sold out big. oh and the tooth pick is gangsta

ja rule is no wanabee dmx. dmx is different. way different. and ja got real gangsta bakgrund.

50 cent = :dork

jay - z is cool. he retired now cuz hip hop is geting dumb.

Puffy has basically become a cartoon character, he either dresses in a Zoot Suit like the character Mugsy in the Bugs Bunny cartoons

:laugh :laugh :laugh

I actually quit listening to most rap after biggie died. After he was gone, there was no one left (imo) worth the time. I think you're pretty dead on with most of your thoughts though. BUT, I have to say Snoop is still pretty good. I saw him a few months back opening up for the RHCP (which may add fuel to your fire) and it was just like it was 1994 all over again. One of the best live rap performances ever. No Beautiful, just gin and juice and other good stuff, and about 20 minutes of straight f*** THE PO-LICE f*** THE PO-LICE f*** EM!!

Jburque,

dont get me wrong. i love me some old school Snoop but its a shame what has happened to his career. Doggy Fizzle My Azzle...

Puffy is a dumbf*ck.

Snoop.... I like Snoop

Jay Z is alright.

Ja Rule is alright.

50 - Meh

Jay Z. This guy may be the best lyrical mind in the game but guess what? He Is PoP. Nobody should have to brush theyr shoulders off that much unless they have a serious scalp condition. Much like Snoop he also does duets with the former neptunes beatmaker Pharell Williams who by the way CANT SING.

that head shoulders aint what it once was man

seriously though i agree with everything man, when Ja Rule came out i thought he was tight, then his next album came out... and f***, cant listen to that fairy ever since. he needs to go on IR

i still like snoop, i guess he just changed. i hate that damn song with "Fa real" and that damn show on MTV blows but whatever, but he's not 20 or however old he was back then, you cant expect the man to stay the same.

SHINY SUIT MAN!!! need i say more?

50 is alright, but yeah since he hit the big time he's gone kinda soft, but not to that other fairy's extreme

jay needs to layoff working with fa real, but look up snoop

i almost forgot about the shiny suits :laugh uh huh yeah

I'm just waiting for ODB's new album to drop like a Cosby kid. Period.

And I can't believe people don't bring up Outkast. They're still rappers. They're stuff's good. I can't say Dre's stuff borders on pop either, because there's nothing else that sounds like it.

Jay Z retired cuz he said rap and hip hop before was like u see some body do something u wanna do the opposite and rebel but now everybodys just copying eachother. which is true.

  • Author

he claims thats his reason but the true reason is he cant compete with the young blood in the game, i dont think jay z could handle another non stop battle like the one he had with nas...

say what you think minus, doesnt bother me.

its all just opinion...
