January 31, 200422 yr No way The Marlins, would get it that soon after getting a new stadium because their are plenty of new stadiums out there that have been around longer waiting for their chance, their just getting to Detroit, their's no way they'll pass up Pac Bell and a few others sure there is a way Marlins can get a quickie All-Star game. League could use it as incentive to get the new stadium built. Also, the league owes Miami an All Star game after pulling out of the Pro a few years ago. This is very possible. Excellent topic. :hat The champ Just who involved with the stadium deal is going to be incentivized by the All-Star game to contribute more to the stadium? The primary beneficiary would be the Marlins, so would you expect the team to contribute more? They are already putting in $137M...how much more would they contribute....another $2-3M? The county is contributing a fixed amount based on tax revenue. The city is only willing to contribute land. So just who else is going to contribute a significant amount based on the All-Star game coming to Miami? It would be wonderful to have the All-Star game in Miami, and the league does "owe us one", but I fail to see your argument how it would incentivize the stadium being built.
January 31, 200422 yr Author Private investors would need to be convinced, getting an All-Star game in the opening season would be a goo way of doing that. The game would bring in enough revenue for the local economy to pay off the ballpark if all the money was used to pay it off. It also fills hotel rooms in Miami's off peak season which is in July.
January 31, 200422 yr You guys have a big stadium, so it should be done. However, it has been years since it has been in NY. Bring it to Queens or the Bronx I say. We have big stadiums too, and fans that LOVE to spend money.
January 31, 200422 yr Author We had the 2000 game and it was taken away, NY has to wait. MLB wants it in new ballparks. PPS is not old, but is multipurpose. But the 2007 game can be had and should be had if the Marlins can get the ballpark. MLB doesn't want to put the game in Arizona yet, and neither of the NY teams has bid I believe. The D-Rays could bid, but have not yet. Their ballpark holds many people and they need the boost as well.
January 31, 200422 yr If the league awards the All-Star game to Miami as a result of the new ballpark, it would just that: an award for getting the stadium built. I don't see any of the potential beneficiaries...hotel owners, etc. ....ponying up $$$ to get the stadium built based on a potential All-Star game.
