MIAMI -- Staggering in a four-game losing streak, the Marlins are in need of a Giant killer.

They hope it's right-hander Josh Beckett. Based on last year, Beckett gives Florida an excellent shot at breaking out of the slide.

A year ago, Beckett was 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA against the Giants.

The last game the Marlins won, on May 1, Beckett started. But he was not involved in the decision when the Marlins beat the Diamondbacks, 4-3, in Arizona.

"I just need to go out there and pitch my game," Beckett said. "I can't get too concerned about it [the losing streak]."

The Marlins failed to protect narrow leads twice in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Giants.

They led 1-0 until Barry Bonds' 10th home run tied it in the sixth. And after Ivan Rodriguez's solo home run in the sixth gave Florida a 2-1 lead, the Marlins gave up runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth.

"We're going to bounce out of it," Beckett said. "No doubt about it."

Player to watch:

Rodriguez had two of the Marlins three hits Tuesday, including a home run and a single that set up a first-inning run. At home, Rodriguez is hitting .333 (18-for-54).

Quotable:

"I don't care how the fans feel. This guy [barry Bonds] can kill you in a second. Even his old manager [Dusty Baker] walked him. That tells you something. We are going to pitch him carefully." -- Jeff Torborg on working carefully to Bonds

Alex Gonzalez, who sat out Tuesday with a bruised right hand, is batting .404 with seven home runs on the road and .276 with one homer at home. ... Mike Lowell's sacrifice fly in the first inning gave him 24 RBIs, tied with Gonzalez for most on the team.
