A half-hour later, he totally lost it. Burgoyne, whose performances as the Hall of Fame mascot Phillie Phanatic have brought him international acclaim, shed his costume during a break Friday at the Phillies' Final Pieces charity sale and auction of Veterans Stadium mementos at the Wachovia Center. He left it in a makeshift dressing room off the arena's concourse, one with two doors leading to the concourse and another leading to an empty hall. None was locked. He returned to the room at about 7 p.m., jumped into the body and turned to place the head on his shoulders. "The head was gone," Burgoyne said. Arena security guards reviewed videotape, to no avail. The noggin, valued at $3,000, was gone. "I didn't do it," insisted general manager Ed Wade, who, perhaps suspiciously, spent the weekend out of town. The Phillies don't know who did it. They issued no immediate alarm so as to not detract from good feeling produced from the more than $700,000 raised for Phillies charities. Burgoyne has a backup costume, but, really, where do you wear a Phanatic head? He just hopes it gets returned. Will there be a reward? Said Burgoyne, straight-faced, "We'll play that by ear."
February 10, 200422 yr that's horrible! That phanatic is the best mascot of all time. However, he recovered from worst... Tommy Lasorda attacks the Philly Phanatic August, 1988 After the Philly Phanatic had stomped numerous times on a stuffed doll dressed in a Dodgers uniform with ``Lasorda'' on the back, Lasorda wrestled the doll away from the mascot. Lasorda then hit the Phanatic in the face with the doll, pinned him to the ground and threw a few punches. Truly a great sight. "What he did wasn't entertainment," said Lasorda. "I love the Dodgers, and it wasn't right for him to stomp on the doll with the uniform. There were a lot of kids there, and he's showing them violence. He didn't need to do that.'' David Raymond, who masqueraded as the Phanatic, didn't seem too bothered. "When he grabs me, he gets his shots in pretty hard, but I didn't know that he was serious,'' Raymond said. "I'm really just trying to make fun of Tommy's shape."

February 11, 200422 yr The Phanatic always brought a smile to my face as a kid and I still think, he's the funniest thing around. I love how he hits on all the women in the stands and yet their's nothing wrong with it.
February 13, 200422 yr philly phanatic is the best mascot EVER!!!! that thing rocks ... i want that head, hmmm i need to go to philly and steal it once they get it back, its like the mona lisa.
