Marlins2003
I was reading this article in SI linked below ( a good read with a great pic of Juan Pierre) and I mused, what if the Juan Pierre wasn't part of the trade that sent Preston Wilson to the Rockies...imagine for a moment the sixth paragraph of a typical spring training recap - - "Juan Pierre, fighting for a spot as a non-roster invitee with the Rockies after a dismal 2003, scored the seventh run for Colorado after pinch-running for losing pitcher Jeff Fassero in the eighth. Fassero walked to open the inning. Pierre stole second and scored easily on Todd Helton's third double in two days. Pierre's chances of sticking with the team for another season are complicated by the arrival Busby Brandon, who hit 27 homeruns for the Rockies AAA affiliate and looks to be the odds-on favorite to replace the light-hitting speedster. Juan Pierre appeared in 19 games last season after losing his starting job to Preston Wilson." Just a fleeting thought. bman8316
That would be very weird but the Marlins are the perfect fit for JP, he was one of the biggest factors to last season and Pro Player is the perfect park for him. The Rockies werent really meant for him because when you play 81 games at Coors your expected to hit homeruns and is why JP had to leave. TSwift25
Beinfest maintained all along that the reason we traded with the Rockies was for Pierre. Preston always had a hole in his bat so I was glad to see him go, but it wasn't as if we were giving him away, Pierre was the reason we made the trade, and I'd say it worked out... Hotcorner
one of those trades that's worked out well for both teams. :thumbup rockies got Preston Wilson who just had a monster season, marlins got a CF to replace Preston & turned out to be a perfect pairing with Luis at the top of the order. Plus they were able to shed lots of salary in the deal.

I dont get it...why not wax poetically about Beckett going to college or some other thing that didnt happen? You guys must be REALLY bored...then again, I responded to the thread...
PBMarlin
JP is blazing fast this year! His work to develop an explosive start has paid dividends. Although it didn't show in the box score, it was very evident on the field. After singling in the first, Luis hit into a liner to 2nd on a hit and run, and there was no play at 2nd as JP was already a few steps from the bag. Later he laid down a bunt...which only went about 6 ft down the 3rd base line, and almost beat it out. He then hit a liner to 1st and the pitcher only beat him to the bag by 1/2 a step!!! JP just exploded down the line. He is going to beat out alot of plays this year. Can't wait to watch him start stealing. JP is going to be awesome this year on the basepaths!! Marlins2003
From Texas Frachisor's Monthly -- "...And so Mr. Beckett has never looked back, often reminding his employees that fun and games stop at the door, that without a college education he would never have opened the most successful Sherwin Williams paint store in the tri-county area. Tonight, the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce is proud to bestow on Joshua Beckett its Man of the Year Award..." -- this make you happy jonny? lololol

If he keeps this up, he could announce to the other team that he is going to bunt - then proceed to do so - and still get on base. Love his work ethic - this guy sets the tone. But Conine is the leader of this team...damn, I love this team.
PBMarlin
I forgot to mention earlier... JP made two outstanding plays in CF. First a diving catch in shallow left-center, and later he shagged down a deep gapper in right center and caught it on the wall. Both were due to his incredible speed. :thumbup
