I for one think there is a lot of hypocrisy on these boards. I realize that we have bad ownership. I also realize that Beinfest and Co. have had more downs, than ups lately. However, if we hold someone back that might be ready because of the super 2 status, then we are being the same cheap old Marlins. If we promote someone that might be ready because a need arises, then they are incompetent. It just doesn't matter what they do. Some of you and or from the looks of it most of you are going to bash this front office no matter what they do.
From what I can tell they did have a plan B. Slowey, Maine, Koehler, Sanabia, and Hand. Not many teams have 7 or 8 quality starters in their rotation. My guess is that Fernandez showed them that he was ready during the spring but because they didn't have a pressing need they sent him down to be cautious. Now that we have the need, they went with the best available option to makes us the most competitive. I would call that a competent move.
I guess to an extent the front office and Loria deserve this negativity because of everything they have put us through. However, I for one am just going to cheer for the team , hope for the best and enjoy the season as much as I can. I'm old enough to remember what it was like to grow up down here without a team and I enjoy having this team here regardless of the ownership.or the front office. The season starts tomorrow and I can't wait. I will be at our home opener because I love baseball, I love the Marlins, and I love Miami. Hope to see some of you there.
They are beyond delusional if they expect to compete for a championship this year. So, why start his arbitration clock and bring him a year closer to both more $$$ and free agency? Very few people here, if any, were suggesting that Fernandez start the year in the rotation. Leaving him in AA would have been viewed as smart, not cheap.Let's just hope they are doing the right thing, for the right reasons.
Tomorrow is opening day, and I want to enjoy it, and just enjoy baseball in general. Let's just all have some fun with it.
Go Marlins
