Retirement home lineup. LOL I was thinking the same thing. And it certainly would silence all those who say we have a bunch of nobodys in out lineup :sleazy

The Marlins should hit a little better this weekend
Kind of hard not to hit a little better than the crap we saw in D.C. Yeah that was really bad. 1 run and 15 hits in 3 games.....woefull

I found this on the Marlins international signings, is this what you meant? http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2013-02-19/sports/sfl-miami-marlins-international-free-agents-blog-20130218_1_raudel-lazo-miami-marlins-cuban-outfielder-yoenis-cespedes Not that article specifically, but in other places and forums, but that was very interesting. We do have 4 of them in our top 30 which is a good thing. Well it looks like they haven't totally dropped the ball on this. +1 for the front office.

I don't think Loria ruined baseball in Miami. We're here for 28 more seasons, I believe. I think there still is a chance to save baseball here and there's plenty of time to do it. He needs to go for that to happen, though. I agree with the rest of what you said. Baseball will never leave South Florida. Regardless of what happens and how pathetic the team may be, Sellg and the next line commissioners know how important a Market Miami. The Marlins are meant to grow baseball in the carribbeans and further south, as well as help compete for big money by being a top 10 city in National Contract Negotiations. Baseball one day may be in Puerto Rico, but will any Dominican, Cuban, Columbian, or Venezuelan truly call it their own? The marlins have that chance, they just keep screwing it up. Remember the stories of Livan and his mom listening by hand radio to Marlins games? Baseball was put here to grow in a top 10 ML market, and boost national television contracts and sales by being in the best markets possible. If winning truly matters in the end, you would see teams in Dekalb, IL as long as Mark Cuban offered to keep the payroll above 200MM. What baseball wants most in this market is respectability, and while Loria is guilty of not providing it since November- he has a pretty good track record of it before that. Besides, does anyone really see Loria or Samson at the helm in 20 years. They have better s*** to do with their lives by that point, even if they are still around.Piazza I agree with much of what you say, and that is where I shake my head on how has the franchise done its part in all of this. I have read before that the Marlins have one of the lowest budgets for international development. Is this truthful or not ? I can understand not having a large budget for Asian development, and I am sure that is a great expense for teams on the West Coast because of the distance, and I can understand that those costs would be less for the Marlins since the cost of doing business in Latin America is a lot less. However from what I have interpreted from the past articles I've read is that the Marlins have less money allocated towards Latin development than many teams such as the St. Louis Cardinals and even the Los Angeles Dodgers. Is this true ? If it is, this is just gross stupidity on the Marlins part. They should have have an overwhelming saturation of the region for many reasons, most of which is to build your brand in that area so you can attract as many people as you can to purchase team related materials. It's unfathomable for them to not have directed as much resources there as possible. It's my understanding alot of that development cost has to do with budgeting for places to train players, house them and care for them. For instance (not saying they don't, I just dont know) the Cardinals do not have a latin american trainign facitlity and therefore pay outside parties to train and educate their players, and also pay for hotels to provide shelter. The marlins I believe have their own first class (by third world standards) trainign facility much like spring training here where there is room and board they provide out of buildings that they own and employees they send to train them. I'm almost 100% sure the Marlins have a first class training and educational facility that only a few teams even thought of a few years ago. This has been since 2002. Okay this I wasn't aware of, and boy am I glad they do have this. I was under the impression they were just ignoring the region.

If you don't like the product on the field, tune it out. Judging by the ticket sales so far, that's what South Florida has been doing. Good for them, I have yet to buy a ticket too. But has any of you heard me say that? Not trying to argue with you, I'm asking the group as a whole. I can easily say I've yet to give them money, and put out my chest in a show of solidarity with some of you, but I'm not into the same revisionist history that I believe some of you have. There is a difference between not buying a ticket and not wanting to go. I want to go, just haven't had the opportunity to know what my schedule will be like to purchase even opening day tickets. Oh I hear ya. I'm more against going on opening day really. I'm too selfish to deprive myself all year of the baseball I love, so I know I will be going to a few games. Less than last year but probably around 20 when all is said and done. But I won't pay for concessions. I will eat at Versailles or Latin America Restaurant before the game and go John Martin's in the Gables afterwards for a beer. I'm not sure what part you believe I said was revisionist, that has me perplexed a bit.

He needs to go for that to happen, though. I agree with the rest of what you said. I think he's done so much harm that it will never be the success it could have been, certainly as long as he is involved. There is no trust in him whatsoever - from the fans to the politicos. If he needs the locals to help him get an All-Star Game, believe it or not, you may find that he may have a hard time getting even the Beacon Council and JCC people to help him out. Which is nearly impossible to do, but Loria seems to have managed to be hated by so many he's achieved that status. Look baseball in Miami was always going to be a hard sell, which is why I have always been perplexed as to why Loria didn't just take the team elsewhere. The history even before he got here was poisoned, and then what he did in 2006 hurt them worse, and now its been made so toxic that it is permanently damaged. Even with a perennial winner it may have been a bit of hard sell, because just as the Marlins came into being, and especially as of late, you now have the media possibilities to see your "old" team in almost every conceivable media outlet all season long. A big incentive to change loyalties has been done away with, and it hurt the two Florida teams and the Arizona team more than any other franchises. Even the Rockies don't have that problem since they have such a large area that was virgin territory for MLB. Charlotte, NC would be the area that I think can support a team if a stadium was built there, and has never been talked about as a possibility. It wouldn't cause any problems with being out of place in a division as they could stay in the NL East, and it is far enough away from Atlanta & Washington to not really interfere with their fanbases.

he basically guaranteed 70 or more wins. That's what I thought I interpreted as well in his statements. I can already see the excuse he'll use when they don't make 70 - we had too many injuries early. I'm already ready to hear it, and roll my eyes.

I caved and bought tickets for the Braves @ Marlins games
As for the Cubs this attendance phenomenon didn't really happen until the 1980's. I always giggle when I see them projected as "generations and generations" of fans that filled the stadium. In 1981 their average attendance was 9,752 and in between 1970 and 1980 they averaged 15,119 which would be last or near last in attendance in either league in this modern age. While yes they have arguably the most loyal of fandom in MLB they haven't always been there packing the stadium. It's really a product I think of their being on WGN for many years and the exposure they received via that media outlet. My question with regard to ... I guess is would Loria have turned a profit even if all tickets and skyboxes were sold out last year ? And is the main culprit those skyboxes - if he sells all of the field level seats, but fails with selling enough of the skyboxes does that preclude enough revenue to keep the high end payroll ? Did he let his ego get in the way of common sense economics last year ? If the last question is answered by him to the public honestly and with some contriteness, I believe there could be a modicum of forgiveness the public would bestow upon him. But his letter to the fans of 3 or 4 weeks ago, didn't have any humility in it that I saw, none that was felt genuinely and so the reaction has been as expected - vitriolic and counterproductive for the future of this franchise. It did nothing but stir up the hate and remind everyone of why they dislike Jeffrey Loria. Its a very sad situation, that frankly I don't know how it can be rectified without Loria quietly retiring from the front of the running of the franchise (he could still exercise power but behind the throne) and hiring a new front man (i.e. not David Samson) or by selling. There has been a large segment of the population of South Florida, and in Miami-Dade County in particular that was already turned off permanently to Loria and the way he runs the Marlins. Now that number has grown exponentially and this fanbase is so poisoned that Loria may never be able to recover them enough to make this a financial go for him. His best move IMO would be to sell as soon as he can without any financial penalty, but I have seen that ... says he will not be selling them anytime soon. Well that will be his own folly and loss of millions of $ if does stay in the game. Now let's beat those Mets !

Nice inning Cishek. What is his timeclock ? Next season gone ? Well, if he goes out there and dominates he could be gone by trade deadline. (He might not even have to dominate, just a team that offers something good in Loria's eyes) Dude it's so so sad....... :censored

Soooooo... who are we getting next year with the first overall pick? To put together a team this bad, Loria must be drooling over someone for the 1st pick, because no other reason the team should be this bad. It has to be a plan, because even my dead mother (God Bless her soul) could have put together a better lineup than this.

Offensively, we look abysmal. Our pitching has been fairly decent honestly. We're gonna lose at least 90 games in my opinion, and Loria will fire Redmond and unload some more. Seriously ? Redmond ? He can't be that arrogant.....oh wait
