  1. Blalock has good stuff but has never put it all together between moving organizations and injuries. Gives them someone who you can stick at the 5 spot in the rotation while White/Snelling/Meyer/Millbrandt get more seasoning.
  2. Scherzer and Verlander both made $15 million last season. Quintana made $13 million. Corbin would be a waste of time.
  3. What kind of SP are you going to get for that? Let alone 2?
  4. I like Bo Bichette. He is a nice player. But if he is what $42 million a year gets you, the Marlins will never be competitive.
  5. Eh, perception of Arraez had already started to sour pretty quickly and he was having a poor start to the year. It is pretty doubtful his value goes up as he is basically a DH who only hits weak singles.
  6. Wonder if Jonathan Long might be part of it.
  7. Cabrera kind of exists in a weird space. I doubt the Marlins will sell low but I doubt teams will want to give up much for him at the same time.
  8. Not one to defend the organization but Cronin had TJ surgery, was going to be out for all next season, and wasn't anything special.
  9. He graded out as below replacement level on Fangraphs.
  10. Myers is one of those players who other Marlins fans loved and I just never really got why. He was at best mediocre defensively and couldn't hit at all. Lots of players "play hard" and most of them aren't loved.
  11. The most easy slam dunk signing imaginable for the Marlins and they just refuse to spend. Bruce Sherman is a fucking embarrassment and the league should be ashamed they let him buy the team. Ignore the "bid the most", the fact that he had no capacity to spend after the fact should have been disqualifying.
  12. 1 billion. IIRC the Sherman group bid 1.8 billion with a lot of that being assumed debt.
  13. This team is more than a Pudge away. The worst regular hitter in that 03 lineup, Alex Gonzalez, would have been one of the better hitters. There is literally one MLB caliber bat in the lineup, Kyle Stowers, and he is a 28 year old. Marsee looks OK due to his good plate discipline but has a high BABIP and struggled once film got out. Edwards in a perfect world is a utility player. Ramirez has a nice bat and I have hope that he can figure it out but his value is much less if he can't stick at C. That bat is nothing special at DH or 1B. Otto Lopez is one of the worst hitters in baseball(and the context this article leaves out is that while his launch angle did improve, it is still well below average and he makes some of the softest contact in baseball. He also doesn't draw BBs. He is a truly awful hitter). There really is no telling what you get out of Conine. Its pretty likely he does not make enough contact to be a regular player. Norby has yet to show that he is an everyday player to the point I would actually prefer Pauley to be the opening day 3B. At least Pauley grades out + defensively. The lineup is a mess with basically no upside top to bottom.
  14. Mas was also outbid by 800,000,000. The bigger issue is that the Sherman group was allowed to overbid(and assume $400 million of debt) when they clearly didn't have the finances to do so or back it. Some of the moves would have been the same even, as Stanton was likely gone regardless. The best version was all groups are sat down in a room and told to pull their heads out of their asses and combine all the bidders into an ownership LLC like what the Dodgers have. Probably could of attracted younger investors to such a project as well as they could use Miami as a selling point in their marketing, like using luxury boxes and hotels on the beach to woo.
  15. Marsee had a great August with a .434 BABIP. With a .284 BABIP in September his OPS was .619 with a 76 OPS+. He has always profiled as a 4th outfielder. Stowers breakout seems like it might be sustainable but he is 28 years old. Not really sure what is exciting about the rest of the OF?
  16. Genuinely curious what "prospects" are being blocked. There really isnt anyone on the current roster that should be blocking anyone to begin with. The team has one offensive player who is arguably an MLB-caliber starting bat(Stowers) but he only did it one season so far that was an injury shortened age 28 season.
  17. I dont get why they didn't just work out combining the two ownership groups. Like what the Dodgers have.
  18. It really is still so perplexing they let Bruce Sherman buy this team knowing his financial limitations.
  19. While Stowers Savant page looks pretty solid, his BABIP was over .350 last season and he turns 28 in January. The Marlins are right to be cautious.
  20. Pretty sure the Marlins have to spend money. I am actually not opposed to trading Bender nor any reliever for the right package. Relievers are volatile. Bender is also 31. Not that that is AS important for relievers, he is also a guy with an injury history.
  21. I dont say Lopez is one of the worst hitters in baseball. His stats do. Rosario's wrc+ is 20 points higher.
  22. Realistic targets: Ryan O'Hearn(1B), Yoan Moncada(3B), Miguel Andujar(3B), Amed Rosario(SS), Trent Grisham(CF) Go with a lineup of: Grisham, CF(L) Andujar, 3B Stowers, LF(L) Moncada, DH(S) Ramirez, C O'Hearn, 1B(L) Rosario, SS Marsee, RF(L) Edwards, 2B(S)
  23. They were trying to trade him. Had a deal with the Diamondbacks(IIRC) that fell apart but he was being shopped.
  24. Spike replied to Michael's topic in Miami Marlins
There are only 17 players with a lower ISO in the league. Even if you bump up the #s to match his BABIP from last year, with additional xbh factored in, his WRC+ would likely go down. He has such little power and makes soft contact, you'd likely at most get another 2B out of the additional ~28 to 30 hits(he is averaging a 2B every 24 AB; HR every 36). So he would go from 14th from the bottom to tied for 10th from the bottom in wrc+. He was awful last year. Hes been beyond awful this year. He was never a good hitter at any level of the minors. Lopez is fine to have as a sub or utility infielder. But his bat is unplayable on a team that is so poor offensively.
  25. Spike replied to Michael's topic in Miami Marlins
Except he is a bottom 20 hitter. Nothing suggests he will improve or be markedly different. He will likely be at best a bottom 25 hitter in baseball in his best years.
