Going into the offseason pitching looks set… maybe a small bullpen arm.

What bats would you like to see? 1B, 3B, RF, LF, C?

I’m thinking calling up Joe Mack to play C and let Augustin DH.

Pete Alonso? Tucker? Kepler?

those additions would clearly make up the 5-8 games needed to be a contender.

Way I sees it - take offers on every bullpen arm and if someone gives a good one, accept it. Ronny Henriquez needs a major return to be accepted though.

Phillips I'd also like to keep, for the mental asylum vibes if nothing else.

Yes.

No to the outfielders cause we may actually be fine there with Stowers, Marsee, Conine, and Heriberto. Pete is going to want an even larger deal that what he just opted out of and I don't blame him. I don't see that happening.

I don’t see it happening either but one can dream. I feel like we are 1-2 bats away from being a contender.

We're 1-2 arms away when we have G, Big Bear, Yeli and Real.

I think everyone here knows that Alonso to us is not happening.

If we were a real big league franchise, though, he's who we would be going after.

The pitching always "looks set" until it doesn't 3 innings into the season. I'll suggest yet again (yearly occurrence at this point, yet one they never do) that they need to sign a decent innings eating vet.

The three names you mentioned won't ever happen.

Agree there’s a lack of SP depth even if they don’t trade Sandy. Lots of guys will be on innings limits they should go after a legit sp3. They also need 2 RPs. Ronny is really the only shutdown guy we have in the pen right now.

Obviously 1b is huge need bat wise.

Norby wasn’t that good but kind of turned it on in the end? If I had my druthers I’d try get a 3b though.

This data is from Sportrac:

This is what baseball reference is saying:

Fangraphs has this:

Stanton and Avi Garcia are off the books?

The baseball reference one shows Stanton on there for '26 and '27 at $10M each year, and a $10M buyout on a '28 team option (not sure if the full '28 $10M is only if the option is exercised, or if we're paying the $10M either way.)

For Avi: looks like the Marlins have a $5M buyout on a team option for '26.

So by this info, $15M to Stanton+Avi for '26, and $10M to Stanton for '27 and '28

We may already have them in the system. Plus ... health, too. Remember we were without Stowers for a good bit of time, Norby a lot of time, and Conine most the year along with Mack never getting a chance.

Ya know, any time someone mentioned this, they could never name the two pitchers the Marlins could or should have gone after.

If Jose didn’t die they probably make the playoffs that following year

Marlins Could Be Active In Bullpen Market This Offseason - MLB Trade Rumors

With those improvements fresh in mind, they’re expected to be more active in free agency than in recent offseasons, per Craig Mish of FanDuel Sports Network Florida & Sun (video link). Specifically, Mish highlights the bullpen as a likely area of focus, noting that the Marlins seem poised to target late-inning arms with closing experience and/or left-handed relievers.

Not to mention Marsee only played 2 months.

I think there is a good shot we will be better both pitching and hitting even with no significant additions to the team. Still, should push for more if you have a chance. Prove to the market and the sport that you want to win.

I don't typically engage in this type of behavior but "more active" in the free agent market is such a low bar when our only MLB signing was Quantrill. Lol

They'll sign someone for 1-year, $4M and tout it as a big spending increase (from the $3.5M his deal was).

Marsee IS NOT THIS GOOD! That Babip has him due for a major regression. So yeah he’ll be alright and he’s a good player, but they cannot make the mistake of thinking they don’t need to add 1-2 REAL bats. DH/C/1B (put Agustin at one of them, , and fill the other two with power bats.) Trouble is the free agent market is thin on realistic options.

C:

Realmuto (no chance) , Salvy (he’ll retire in KC), Cristian Vazquez (washed), Gary Sanchez (Washed)

That leaves plausible catchers who may or may not even be upgrades like Victor Caratini and Danny Jansen. Honestly, he’s not a catcher long term, but you’re better off leaving Gus and Mack there this season and plugging in somewhere else.

1B:

Great but No chance: Alonso (going to BOS 🤞🏻😂), Arraez (expensive)

Good but not happening: Josh Naylor (career year and he’ll be looking for some long term “big” dollars to buyout most of his 30’s that probably won’t be worth it) Wouldn’t be against it though.

Realistic: Goldy (38 next season Buy low candidate may take a short deal to reestablish value) Carlos Santana (meh, switch hitter but better off with Gus there ) Rhys Hoskins (actually not a bad option and I wanted them to sign him in ‘24), Rowdy Téllez (meh, but good power) So yeah, thing on 1B as well, but may be something there.

DH:

Ryan O’hearn (top of the list for me, good bat to either DH or platoon at first with Gus) Marcell Ozuna (buy “low” with lots of power)

All in all it’s not looking too strong in the free agent market, but let’s see how things shape up.
