If Jose didn’t die they probably make the playoffs that following year

They were trying to trade him. Had a deal with the Diamondbacks(IIRC) that fell apart but he was being shopped.

Shockingly, Bendix is non-committal about trading Alcantara....

Marlins Notes: Alcantara, First Base, Garrett, Meyer - MLB Trade Rumors

The Fish will get calls from teams intrigued by Alcantara’s strong finish. Bendix dodged a question about whether he expected the two-time All-Star to remain in South Florida headed into next season. “I’m not going to speculate on any individual player,” he said (relayed by Isaac Azout of Fish On First). “We’re always looking for ways to improve our club and I’m going to stay as disciplined as possible in doing that.”

Someone offers a silly good deal, you take it (and ask for a little extra).

There’s no way mlb lets them have a sub $30M payroll in the year 2026. If they do trade him, they’d need cover some salary for more prospects and/or hire some new free agents. Or not

What do you think the little extra is for?!
