1. Ryan Tucker numbers today in the CGL 4IN 2H 1BB 7K nice work by the kid I like the fact that he brought down his walks yesterday Sean West went 4IN 3H 3K nice :thumbup 857257 Saw Tucker today - He pitched outstanding. His fastball had a high of 95 and was consistently 93-94. He also showed a GREAT Uncle Charley. He reminds me a lot of Josh beckett
2. Saw Gracesqui pitch today - Didn't impress me much ( I know it was his first appearance). His highest fastball hit 87 .

MVP only start of big things for Hermida Mudcats outfielder appears headed on fast track to Marlins By Jonathan Mayo / MLB.com MOBILE, Ala. -- It's been quite a few days for Jeremy Hermida. It started Saturday when the Florida Marlins outfield prospect went to Detroit to participate in the 2005 XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game. It ended here Wednesday night, when he took home Most Valuable Player honors at the Southern League All-Star Game. "It's a taste of what you're working for," Hermida said of his Futures Game experience. "I don't want to say (the Southern League All-Star Game) is easier, but after seeing every guy throw 97-98 mph at the Futures Game, this was an adjustment." Hermida proved adept at adapting his game in Mobile. After striking out in his first at-bat, Hermida came up with his North Division team leading 1-0 and runners at first and second. His two-out single gave the North its second run of the game. Hermida then was instrumental in breaking the game wide open for the North in the fifth. With the bases loaded with no outs, Hermida banged a Luis Gonzalez offering off the top of the left-field wall for a bases-clearing double. He added a ninth-inning single and run for good measure. There's no question that his stint at Comerica Park over the weekend helped Hermida in Mobile. After playing in front of a huge crowd in his first visit to a big league stadium, facing the best Minor Leaguers in the world, taking on the Southern League elite was just another day at the ballpark. "Detroit was definitely one of the best experiences of my life," Hermida said. "It was kind of nerve-wracking. Here, I was able to relax a little more, playing against guys I've played against all year, and I was lucky enough to pick up a couple of hits." Prior to the start of the game, Hall of Famer Hank Aaron told the All-Stars how close they were to becoming big leaguers. Just how close is the 21-year-old Hermida? Considering the Marlins have never hesitated to bring guys to the Majors directly from Carolina, the right fielder might want to keep his cell phone on at all times. "He's right there as far as being ready for the big leagues," Marlins vice president of player development and scouting Jim Fleming said recently. "He's been good at every level and he's been showing more power at every level." Hermida entered the All-Star break with a career-high 14 homers and .513 slugging percentage. He's also walked more than he's struck out, putting him on pace for a career-best .442 on-base percentage. As a result, Hermida was invited to participate in the Southern League Home Run Derby prior to the All-Star Game. He didn't embarrass himself, but he didn't make it out of the first round, finishing with three bombs. "It's the first time I've ever done that," Hermida said. "I was a little juiced up and was pulling the ball a bit at first. We were just trying to put on a show for the fans." Hermida's real show came during the actual game, and served as notice that perhaps fans in Florida should get ready to see it soon. Even if that doesn't happen, Hermida sees nothing but positives in his All-Star experiences in preparing for his second half. "Sometimes it's worse if you don't play at all," Hermida said. "You get three days off, you come back and you're [rusty]. So you come to the All-Star Game and play against good talent. It gives you a chance to see what's going to be out there."
4. 6IN 1H 3K final line not bad , he appears ready for the second half 854409 I was at the game. Valdez had a lot of hard hit balls hit right at people. Still, he pitched a helluva lot better than when I saw him last week.

I used to think Fulton could be a good prospect but he will never be a good player. He has 29 errors! He could DH somewhere. 854166 Fulton was originally a shortstop and is being converted to a third baseman. I remember watching a 19 year old kid in Jupiter playing third base (originally a shortstop) and makinh more errors than that. It was Miguel Cabrera. I AM NOT COMPARING. Just stating that Fulton is a work in progress and is still young
6. 6 runs in 3 innings so far.......

OREGON STATE STAR JOINS HOPPERS July 7, 2005 (GREENSBORO, NC) The Florida Marlins announced five roster moves effecting the Grasshoppers early this morning. Greensboro catcher Luis Alen has been released from the Florida organization, third baseman Jonathan Fulton has been placed on the disabled list after breaking his thumb in Wednesday night's contest, and Jamestown catcher Trent D'Antonio will join Greensboro along with recent 11th round draft pick Andrew Jenkins of Oregon State University. Infielder Beau McMillan has been reinstated to the active roster after serving a ten-game suspension. Catcher Luis Alen has been with the Greensboro team since the start of the season and has been with the Marlins organization since 2002. He began his professional season with San Joaquin in the Venezuelan Summer League. He spent the majority of 2003 and 2004 with short-season Jamestown. He started the 2005 season in Greensboro and played in 40 games as a Grasshopper. In those 40 games he hit .181 including four doubles and eight RBI. He struck out 11 times in 116 at bats. He was originally drafted by the Marlins as a free agent in 2002. Jonathan Fulton, named the 21st prospect in the Florida organization by Baseball America, broke his thumb last night playing third base on an errant throw from catcher Brad Davis and has been placed on the disabled list. This is Fulton's second season with the Marlins after he was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2003 First-Year Player draft. He is hitting .232 including three triples and 11 homeruns. Australian catcher Trent D'Antonio will replace Alen in the roster. Starting in Jamestown this season, he has hit .214 in seven games played. He has three hits including a double and has scored five runs. Previous to his signing with the Marlins, he played in both the World AA (U17) Championships in 2001 and hit .437 for the tournament. In 2002, he played in the World AAA (U19) Championships hitting an impressive .370. The Marlins drafted D'Antonio as a Free Agent in 2003. Bringing up the 25th spot on Greensboro's roster is 2004 Oregon State University standout, infielder Andrew Jenkins. Jenkins was an All-American senior first baseman with OSU. During his senior season, the Beavers had the most wins in school history, won the Pacific-10 Conference championship, won the NCAA regional and super regional and reached the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. for the first time since 1952. So far this season with Jamestown, Jenkins is hitting .500 in four games played. He has seven hits, two runs and one RBI. He was drafted in June in the 11th round of the First Year Player Draft.
8. Lookouts thump Mudcats Thursday, July 07, 2005 ZEBULON ? The Fourth of July hoopla has passed. The second half of the Southern League season is only a few weeks old. Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan have already played, and no more big names are on the marquee. The public address announcer's voice began to echo off the empty seats at Five County Stadium on Wednesday. Summer's proverbial dog days have indeed settled on the Carolina Mudcats. Manager Gary Allenson did his best to mix things up Wednesday, playing musical positions with his players. But in front of only 2,197 paying fans ? and a significantly smaller crowd actually in attendance ? the Mudcats did little to stir things on the field in a 7-2 loss to Chattanooga. "That's exactly what it is ? it's the dog days," Allenson said. "It's humid out. It's hot out. ... There's a tendency for one game to run into the next, to run into the next. And it's a time when guys can waste at-bats because they're not concentrating. That's what you can't do." Of the Mudcats' eight position players, only three started in the same positions Wednesday as they did Tuesday. But in the 19th of 36 meetings between Chattanooga (6-8 in the second half) and Carolina (7-6) this season, the Lookouts provided most of the excitement, recording 10 hits and turning in one head-scratching dose of deja vu. Ryan Hanigan led off both the second and fourth innings by beating out infield singles - both times hitting the ball to the hole between shortstop and third. The following batter, Stephen Smitherman, delivered a pair of more authoritative hits to follow up. Smitherman's two two-run home runs off Carolina starter Luke Lockwood (2-4) propelled the Lookouts to a 4-1 lead in the fourth. On this night, that was enough. "Lockwood made two mistakes to the same guy," Allenson said. "He didn't pitch that bad ? just to one guy." There were a few gems in an otherwise sleepy midsummer night. James Shanks, who suffered through much of June with an injury, had three hits, including two doubles. And Carolina's newest player, Reggie Abercrombie, made an impact in his first game with the Mudcats. Called up because of Eric Reed's promotion to Triple-A Albuquerque Wednesday, Abercrombie had a solo home run in the fourth, stole a base, and offered up an assist from the outfield. "I'm just trying to come out here and help keep the chemistry going," Abercrombie said. "Any time you get the first game out of the way, now you can just go relax and play." This time of year, Abercrombie is a welcome spark. "It's nice to have a new guy on the block," Allenson said. "I've heard (Abercrombie) plays hard. He's obviously got a little bit of power, too. I don't know if that ball he hit has come down yet." Notes: Nursing a sore hamstring, right fielder Jeremy Hermida sat out as a precautionary measure ... Hermida and catcher Jason Hill on Wednesday were named starters on the North Division squad in the Southern League All-Star game, scheduled for July 13 in Mobile, Ala. Hermida will bat third; Hill will hit ninth.

Garcia has right rotator cuff tendonitis while Paul Witt has gone on the seven-day-DL with a left hand contusion. While with Greensboro, Garcia is 3-0 with a 1.27 ERA. He has pitched in five games with four starts allowing 11 hits and five runs. He was added to the Grasshopper roster on June 6 and drafted by Florida as a free agent in 2001. Paul Witt, one of Greensboro's most recent additions, was added to the roster on June 30 and has played in four games. In 13 at bats, the infielder has hit .231 with three hits and one run. Witt was drafted in the fifteenth round of the 2005 draft out of Baylor University.

saw him throw a bullpen session today at Roger Dean. He threw some nasty s*** and had his old cocky smile back on his face, His fastball was popping the glove as well. He threw pain free!!!!

saw him pitch today. He went 4 innings giving up 3 hits 2 runs 1walk and 5k's. The hits were of the cheap variety. One was an infield hit and the other 2 were the result of a very HARD infield with the ball bouncing over the third basemans head. His fastball hit 92 and he had a greta curveball as well. We won 15-5. Everyone hit well so I wont single anyone out. Notes: Brett Hayes (our 2S pick from the U of Nevada) caught Volstad. He caught a great game and got himself a couple of hits as well. I think he's in the GCL rehabbing from a small injury, Ryan Tucker (our 1S pick from HS) pitched one inning yesterday and I was told he hit 95 on the radar gun more than once Nate Messner, on a hard play at the plate, knocked the Mets catcher out of the game (literally) . The Mets catcher was taken to the hospital with at least a broken nose. These baby Marlins play tough!!!
21. as the hammerheads win 11-1 behind the great pitching by Paul Mildren, who is now 7-1 with a 2.57ERA. Curiousity, why is Reggie Abercrombie still in A ball???????

25. ALLISON ACTIVATED July 4, 2005 (GREENSBORO, NC) The Florida Marlins announced today that left-handed pitcher Travis Talbott will join the Grasshoppers from short-season Jamestown. Talbott was drafted by Florida this past June as a 14th round pick. While with Jamestown, the closer had a 1.42 ERA with no decisions in four games played. He struck out five batters in 6.1 innings pitched. Talbott recently finished his senior season with University of California- Berkeley. Another pitcher moving onto Greensboro's active roster is right-handed pitcher Jeff Allison. Allison was 1-1-0 with the Hoppers before going on the disabled list with shoulder soreness in late May. Allison is expected to start tonight on the mound tonight versus Charleston; his first start since May 20. He goes into tonight's game with a 3.92 ERA and 20.2 innings under his belt. This season, he has given up 19 hits, ten runs (nine earned) and struck out 15 batters. Allison was selected by the Marlins in the first round of the 2003 First Year Player Draft. Temporary Greensboro catcher, Freddie Smolarski, has been transferred to the Gulf Coast League. Smolarski played in three games for Greensboro averaging .182 at the plate getting two hits and striking out twice. Smolarski originally came to Greensboro from High-A Jupiter, FL in late June and was drafted as a Free Agent in 2002. The Marlins previously announced that three Grasshoppers would be suspended for 'violation of organizational policies.' Outfielder Xavier Arroyo and infielder Cole Seifrig have served their ten-game suspensions and are officially activated for Monday night's game. The third suspended player, Beau McMillan, remains on the suspended list.
